Dr. Maria Montessori, born in 1870, was one of the first women in Italy to receive a medical degree. She worked in the fields of psychiatry, education, and anthropology. She believed each child is born with a unique potential to be revealed, rather than as a “blank slate” waiting to be written upon. Her main contributions to raising and educating children are:

·       Preparing the most natural and life-supporting environments for the child.

·       Observing the child living freely in this environment.

·       Continually adapting the environment in order that the child may fulfill his or her greatest potential, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Dr. Montessori’s method of education is taught all over the world. She became the director of a school for “unhappy little ones,” which was what she called the mentally disabled children. After two years under her guidance, the children, who had formerly been considered uneducable, took a school examination along with “normal” children and successfully passed. Educators called Dr. Montessori a miracle worker.

The Montessori Schools begin with a deep respect for the child as a unique individual. They work with a concern for their social and emotional development, because there is far more to an education than mastering facts.

The Children’s House Montessori Preschool is enrolling students for the 2014-2015 school year.  There is a limited enrollment in keeping student to teacher ratio low; providing children with a personal, attentive education.
