Sutherland President Boyd Matheson announces he won’t run for Senate, launches new leadership organization

SALT LAKE CITY – Today Sutherland Institute President Boyd Matheson announced he will not be running for the U.S. Senate and will instead launch the Sutherland Leadership Center.

Matheson made the announcement on KSL NewsRadio’s Doug Wright show along with a video message on social media https://www.facebook.com/SutherlandInstitute/videos/10155887401248351/.

I met with influencers ranging from Steve Bannon to those who would be classified as Never Trumpers. The common thread that emerged from all of my meetings was that the Trump loyalists and the never-Trump camps are completely united on one thing – their absolute frustration with the lack of leadership in the United States Senate.

I have decided that I will not seek a seat in the United States Senate. Instead, I will focus my effort and attention on the desperate need in the nation for strengthening and building leaders while advancing real dialogue about the principles and policies that will create a better tomorrow for America.

In the coming months, among a number of exciting initiatives and partnerships, I will guide the launch of a 501(c)(4) organization, Sutherland Leadership Center, with a mission to train, support and empower elected officials, candidates, staff and engaged citizens with the strategies, structures and disciplines required to transform institutions, congressional offices and local communities.

To me there is nothing more important. We have become far too comfortable settling for sorry excuses for leadership – and far too accustomed to the consultant-certified, pollster-approved, politically expedient election messaging we get from politicians. Instead, we need to expect and demand leaders with the skills and principles required to have thoughtful, and at times uncomfortable, conversations.

The state of affairs in our country indicates we are entering one of democracy’s most difficult exams – one that will require real profiles in courage from true leaders. We must elect representatives who will challenge the status quo and who won’t be content with incremental improvement to an institution in need of quantum change. Democracy demands more, and Utahns and Americans deserve better.

Telehealth Services Now at Columbus Center for Low-cost Care for Underserved Populations

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, November 20, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Intermountain Healthcare and United Way of Salt Lake, in partnership with Promise South Salt Lake, announce the opening of a telehealth kiosk at the Columbus Center, 2531 South 400 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. The telehealth kiosk will provide low-cost care to underserved populations in the City of South Salt Lake.

"We are delighted to be part of this collaborative project, with our partners Intermountain Healthcare and South Salt Lake, to help improve health outcomes," said Bill Crim, United Way of Salt Lake president and CEO. "Every community faces its own set of challenges and opportunities when it comes to improving the health of its residents. United Way of Salt Lake is committed to deepening our partnerships to overcome barriers that prevent children and families from being the healthiest they can be.”

Since November 14, residents can access healthcare for low-level urgent care conditions through Intermountain Connect Care, a telehealth service that is already available online and on mobile devices, and now becomes even easier for residents to leverage through an onsite kiosk donated by American Well. It will be equipped with a wide range of diagnostic tools including a blood pressure cuff, otoscope, thermometer, scale, and oximeter.

“The physical kiosk will be greatly beneficial for residents as they use the facilities at the Columbus Center,” said William Daines, MD, medical director of Connect Care. “The diagnostic tools that are part of the kiosk enrich the care that patients can receive. But this partnership also serves as a point of education, where volunteers will work with residents to ensure they have access whenever they need urgent care by helping them download the app or sign up on the website so they can use it from home as well.”

The kiosk launch also coincides with the launch of language translation on the service: Interpreters will be available to anyone using Connect Care, including on the website and mobile app, starting November 14th. Intermountain is partnering with Globo to offer this service, which is vital for refugees and other populations who sometimes find it difficult to find care for their conditions and understand treatment plans if not provided in their native language.

“Improving access to care is a top priority for South Salt Lake. We have limited options within our city boundaries for residents who need to get low-cost care,” says Mayor Cherie Wood of South Salt Lake. “This partnership expands that access to care with the kiosk, which will be available during the Columbus Center open hours, and introduces our residents to a 24/7 mobile and web option for urgent care, no matter where they are. Translation services are also an important component of this partnership.”

Connect Care is well suited for symptoms/conditions such as cold, flu, cough, sore throat, urinary tract infection (UTI), rash, eye infection, headache, and minor sprains or strains. Visits cost as little as $10 for those on many insurance plans. For individuals covered by Medicaid, a visit costs $3 or less.

Additionally, Columbus Center representatives will work with individuals who want to use the kiosk but are not able to pay to help cover the cost of care, by connecting them with resources at Intermountain Healthcare.

“Intermountain is pleased to partner with United Way of Salt Lake,” said Mikelle Moore, senior vice president of Community Health at Intermountain Healthcare. “We are always looking for ways to better meet the healthcare needs of the communities we serve, and telehealth offers a unique opportunity to provide low cost care in a way that is flexible and always available.”

The availability of the kiosk is made possible by a donation of Intermountain’s on-demand telehealth partner, American Well. American Well is already connecting millions of Americans to the doctors they trust for live video visits, both through their own telehealth services and through partnerships such as with Intermountain Healthcare.

“American Well cares deeply about utilizing what we’ve developed to make an impact within the community, especially for those in need of healthcare,” said Danielle Russella, President, Client Solutions at American Well. “This initiative allows us to contribute to something truly worthwhile. We’re proud to be a part of delivering much needed care for the residents of South Salt Lake.”

Intermountain Healthcare is a not-for-profit health system based in Salt Lake City. Recognized for its excellent clinical care and low costs, Intermountain strives to help people live the healthiest lives possible. For more information, visit www.intermountainhealthcare.org.

Judicial Watch Sues State Department for Podesta Group Records

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of State for all records about the Podesta Group Inc. and the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine, which have both been connected to the recent special counsel indictment of Paul Manafort (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:17-cv-02489)).

Judicial Watch sued after the State Department failed to respond to a September 13, 2017, FOIA request for:

  • All records of communication between any official, employee, or representative of the Department of State and any principal, employee, or representative of Podesta Group, Inc.
  • All records produced related to any meetings or telephonic communications between any official, employee, or representative of the Department of State and any principal, employee, or representative of Podesta Group, Inc.
  • All records regarding the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine.
  • The FOIA request covers the timeframe of January 1, 2012 to the present.

The Podesta Group, formerly led by Anthony Podesta, and the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine have been mentioned in connection with the criminal indictment of Paul Manafort by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

“Mueller’s special counsel operation seems more interested in the alleged foreign ties of the Trump Team, rather than Hillary Clinton’s associates,” stated Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton. “Judicial Watch aims to figure out the truth of what exactly the Podesta Group was doing with the Obama State Department.”

A peaceful Thanksgiving to you. Do not risk your lives by going to dangerous areas such as Iran, Syria, Chicago or shopping malls on Black Friday. Stay safe. #BlackFridayLivesMatter

I have written two new books that make for great holiday gifts. I also have three t-shirt lines.
"Ideological Lunacy" is my most recent political comedy book. "Jewish Lunacy" is my religious comedy book.
Jewish Lunacy is 6,000 years of history as told by someone who missed the first 5,960-something years. It is clean, family friendly, and appropriate for people of all faiths and all levels of faith from atheist to devout. This book is lighthearted, inoffensive, non-controversial, and non-partisan. It is appropriate for all ages.

Ideological Lunacy is a hard-charging conservative book. Although I take a comedic approach, I do so with a battering ram, not a scalpel. My original three political comedy books are "Ideological Bigotry," "Ideological Violence," and "Ideological Idiocy."

My t-shirts are all political in nature.
I am on Facebook and Twitter @TygrrrrExpress. The ONLY way to purchase my books and t-shirts is from me directly. Buying the books online means they will be unsigned. I put a different signed inscription in each book.
I take check, cash and credit card, not Paypal or bitcoin.

Over the last decade I have spoken in all 50 states. When I speak to churches, synagogues, Kiwanis or Rotary clubs, my presentation is strictly non-partisan. So if you have a politically conservative/Republican group or a religious or charitable organization you would like me to speak to, please reach out to me here or on Facebook or Twitter.
