To identify the safest cities, we reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with our own population data and internal research. We eliminated any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and removed cities with populations under 10,000.

The cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes assigned a value 1.5 times (due to their severity) that of property crimes.

The report was formally released on February 20, 2018.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security is a trade association comprised of home security professionals across the United States. The council advocates for safe communities and home safety with a strong focus on community involvement.

Modern-day herdsman sets forth great ‘Lessons of Nature’

Don F. Pickett reminds readers lessons of nature that have been forgotten in current society

OAKLEY, Idaho – As a fourth generation sheep rancher and having worked for decades in nature, Don F. Pickett brings forward “Lessons of Nature, From a Modern-Day Shepherd” (published by AuthorHouse), a book that aims to strike curiosity in the minds of readers as to what these lessons of nature are designed to teach humankind in order to live a more fulfilled and happy life.

“I am not aware of any other book of this kind on the market which concentrates on lessons that people have learned from nature for over 60 centuries, lessons which have been largely lost or forgotten in this fast-paced world in which we live,” Pickett explains.

The author further cites that the book is intended as an inspirational message that reminds readers that all of God’s creations bear record of him and how he functions in a perfect state of existence. Each lesson begins with a poem, symbolic of the harmony and rhythm of nature itself, as witnessed by a modern-day herdsman.

An excerpt from the book:

Everything that is created by the hand of God bears record of Him and demonstrates how He functions in a perfect state of existence. To the extent that we can learn to emulate Him will determine the extent of our happiness and success in this life as well as in the life which will follow this mortal existence.
