To Write Love on Her Arms

Raises Over $100K During

World Suicide Prevention Day Campaign

Melbourne, FL - September 20, 2017 -  Nonprofit To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) has wrapped their 6th annual campaign to honor World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) and National Suicide Prevention Week (NSPW). With the help of supporters, the organization was able to raise more than $103,500 for treatment and recovery, surpassing their initial goal of $100,000. Over 1600 people donated to this year's campaign via Classy.org, in addition to the sale of 2,500  World Suicide Prevention Day packs , and the distribution of more than 70,000 information cards in 22 countries around the world. The money raised will help sponsor 1,800 counseling sessions, and connect 50,000 people to local mental health resources at 150 events.

"We're incredibly proud of this campaign. We know that so many people are facing storms of all kinds," TWLOHA founder Jamie Tworkowski shares."It was amazing to see so many folks come together to share a message of hope, and also to raise over $100,000 for people to get the help they need and deserve. While National Suicide Prevention Week has ended, our work and this important conversation continues. The dream is a world where it's completely normal to talk about mental health, where people know that it's okay to be honest and it's okay to ask for help."

The theme for this year's campaign - "Stay. Find what you are made for" - was inspired by a book called "When Hope Speaks," written by Jessica Morris, a former TWLOHA intern. With the hope of encouraging people to continue living, Jessica wrote:

"Fight for these moments. Please stay.

Stay and discover these new lands. These new people. The hidden gems you didn't even know existed. Stay and find out what you were made for. You are not a failure. You are not irreparably broken. Step forward now, crawl if you must, into a grace that shines light into the shadows of your soul. You are safe here. In fact, this is home."

TWLOHA recently shared a moving new video as part of its "#IWasMadeFor" campaign, which was viewed over 651,000 times across Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo. The video featured NBA player Kyle Korver, US Women's National Soccer Team stars Alex Morgan, Christen Press, and Ashlyn Harris, actress Shantel VanSanten, Switchfoot's Jon Foreman, Dustin Kensrue of Thrice, actress and singer Debby Ryan, The Ready Set's Jordan Witzrigreuter, and Jess Bowen of The Summer Set, along with a number of clips submitted by TWLOHA supporters from around the world. The video was filmed and directed by Dustin Miller, a Florida-based filmmaker and longtime TWLOHA collaborator.

2016 SALES OF U.S. CERTIFIED ORGANIC AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION UP 23 PERCENT FROM 2015 Sales of organic agricultural production continued to increase in 2016, when U.S. farms produced and sold $7.6 billion in certified organic commodities, according to data released today by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). Results of the 2016 Certified Organic Survey show that 2016 sales were up 23 percent from $6.2 billion in 2015. During the same year, the number of certified organic farms in the country increased 11 percent to 14,217, and the number of certified acres increased 15 percent to 5.0 million. California, with $2.9 billion in certified organic sales, continued to lead the nation in certified sales, accounting for 38 percent of the U.S. total. It also had the largest share of certified organic acres and farms. Three states had more than 1,000 certified farms: California (2,713), Wisconsin (1,276), and New York (1,059). “The results of the 2016 Certified Organic Survey show the continued interest and growth in organic foods,” according to Hubert Hamer, NASS Administrator. “The survey provides the only comprehensive source of national and state data on certified organic production. It was expanded in 2016 from previous years to include fresh and processed information separately for all fruit and berry crops, as well as to include grape data by variety.” Ten states accounted for 77 percent of U.S. certified organic sales, virtually the same share as in 2015 and 2014. Crops accounted for 56 percent of the sale of certified organic production; livestock, poultry, and their products accounted for 44 percent. Organic production encompasses a wide range of commodities, including livestock and poultry products (primarily milk and eggs), with 2016 sales of $2.2 billion; vegetables, $1.6 billion; fruits, tree nuts, and berries, $1.4 billion; livestock and poultry, $1.2 billion; and field crops, $763 million. The top commodities in 2016 were:  Milk – $1.4 billion, up 18 percent  Eggs – $816 million, up 11 percent  Broiler chickens – $750 million, up 78 percent  Apples – $327 million, up 8 percent  Lettuce – $277 million, up 6 percent Other top organic crops were strawberries, grapes, tomatoes, corn, potatoes, hay, spinach, and mushrooms. NASS conducted the 2016 Certified Organic Survey in conjunction with USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA). “RMA relies on the information to expand crop insurance options and set price elections for organic production, “said RMA Acting Administrator Heather Manzano. The survey is a census of all known U.S. farmers and ranchers with certified organic production in 2016. Producers must meet the standards set out by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service’s National Organic Program and be certified compliant by an approved agent of the program.
