Winter Parking in Harrisville

Winter is here! Please remember the winter parking ordinance began November 1st and remains in effect until April 1st with no parking on City streets between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.  Adhering to the parking ordinances helps our Public Works Department keep our streets clear and safe during the winter months.  Vehicles parked on the road during or after a snow storm impede snow plowing and may be towed at the owner’s expense.  Home owners are responsible to remove snow from sidewalks in front of their home and private driveways.  Although it can be inconvenient to remove snow pushed in front of driveways by the snow plow, our drivers cannot prevent this.  Please avoid pushing/shoveling snow back into the roadway after it has been plowed.  Everyone will enjoy the winter season more by working together and lending a hand to those who need help removing the snow.

Don’t be a Crime Victim In Harrisville

When the weather gets colder many members of the homeless community begin to look for a warm place to stay out of the elements.  They will take advantage of any place they can find including unlocked sheds, garages, cars and homes.  As many of them look through neighborhoods for that shelter, they find property belonging to you; and, when they discover you have left it unsecured, they feel it is a gift to them.  Please remember to lock your doors and vehicles and secure valuables such as mowers, snow blowers and bikes behind a locked gate or door and out of view from the street.

Also, please remember to not keep your car running while you let it “warm up” as you run into the house.  Thieves are out looking for vehicles running in driveways in the mornings.  Even a locked door will only slow them down by 10 seconds and the next thing you know you’ll find broken glass in its place.  If you observe a suspicious vehicle or person in your neighborhood, you are asked to call police immediately.  Don’t wait even 5 minutes.  If you don’t want to call 911 you can reach Harrisville Police 24 hours a day through the Weber Public Safety Dispatch Center non-emergency number at 801-629-8221.

Lieutenant Keith Wheelwright, Deputy Chief of Police in the Harrisville City Department, tells us, “Harrisville Police Department has officers on duty 24 hours a day.  We are not inconvenienced by your calls.  We take pride in preventing crime before it happens and have a strong desire to maintain a safe community.  Yet, we still need your help as we cannot be in every neighborhood all the time.”

Keep your eyes out

In this busy time of year when we are anticipating Christmas time and exchanging gifts also comes the convenience to order online.  However, we are learning more and more thieves are targeting neighborhoods within Harrisville, North Ogden and Pleasant View. They are watching for those packages to arrive on doorsteps.  Fed Ex and UPS are especially busy during this holiday season.  If you’re not going to be home and you expect a package to arrive please notify your neighbors so they can be on the lookout for you.  Again, please call the non-emergency number (above) if you see anyone suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
