Secretary Perdue Urges State Foresters to Demand Congress Fix Fire Funding Problem

(Washington, D.C., September 20, 2017) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today urged State Foresters to join in calling on Congress to address the way the U.S. Forest Service is funded. Currently, the agency has to borrow money from prevention programs to combat ongoing wildfires. Secretary Perdue believes Congress should treat major fires the same as other disasters and be covered by emergency funds so prevention programs are not raided. Secretary Perdue made his remarks earlier today at the National Association of State Foresters’ annual meeting in Charleston, West Virginia.

“Every one of you has a member of Congress, and you all are well-respected in your states and in your industry. You’ve got influence there,” Perdue told the State Foresters. “I want to implore you to leave this meeting and just write a note to your Congressional delegation saying, ‘Please support the permanent fire funding fix so the U.S. Forest Service can manage its forests in a way to get ahead of these forest fires.’”

Background:

Last week, wildland fire suppression costs for the fiscal year exceeded $2 billion, making it the most expensive year on record. Wildfires have ravaged states in the west, Pacific Northwest, and Northern Rockies regions of the United States this summer. Currently, the fire suppression portion of the Forest Service budget is funded at a rolling ten-year average of appropriations, while the overall Forest Service budget has remained relatively flat. Because the fire seasons are longer and conditions are worse, the ten-year rolling fire suppression budget average keeps rising, chewing up a greater percentage of the total Forest Service budget each year. The agency has had to borrow from prevention programs to cover fire suppression costs. Secretary Perdue’s proposal would ensure both fire suppression and prevention efforts would receive the funding they need, and he hopes the State Foresters will join his call for Congress to adopt his solution

Los Angeles, CA - September 20th, 2017 - Celebrating an impressive 23rd year of delivering musical experiences like no other festival around, the Vans Warped Tour®, presented by Journeys®, is continuing to solidify itself as the must-attend summer music festival for rock and music lovers alike. The success of the summer is to be shared with the fans that came out to the festival during one of the toughest summers weather wise the tour has ever seen. As Huffington Post shared, "The loyalty of these fans is one of many cornerstones of the Warped Tour making it such an ever-evolving event each year...In a place where there is variety like this tour, the fans that show the most exuberance almost become the driving force of it all."

On this year's Tour, founder Kevin Lyman shares, "In 2017, we seemed to really connect with the core Warped Tour audience. We went back to the basics a bit more and saw that the legacy of the tour was solid."

Giving back to the community has always been a foothold of the Warped Tour experience and this year was no different. Throughout the summer, there were nearly 20 National Organizations on the tour like Music Saves Lives, Peta2, To Write Love on Her Arms, A Voice For The Innocent, Hope For The Day, The Truth and Headcount along with about 90 Local Organizations that attended their local shows to spread awareness. 244,000 pounds of food was donated to various local charities and organizations via Feed Our Children Now and over 100 Eco Warrior volunteers came out to collect about 100,000 pounds of recyclable materials. "It is important for our youth to get out and experience life, have a fun sweaty day, and maybe learn a thing or two from our many non-profit organizations," shares Lyman.

This summer also gave fans amazing interactive experiences, thanks to the Sponsors and Partners behind the tour. Whether you were buying an iconic pair of Vans, educating yourself on an entertainment industry degree from Full Sail University or taking in some new information from truth®, fans were able to take part in creative brand activations. GlobalSim Completes Successful 2017 User Conference

GlobalSim has just concluded a successful user conference in conjunction with a product showcase which took place September 11-13.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES, September 20, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- GlobalSim has just concluded a successful user conference in conjunction with a product showcase which took place September 11-13. The conference, which was held in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah and Park City, Utah, was the 2nd such event held by GlobalSim since the company executed a management buyout in early 2016.

Education sessions at the conference focused on topics such as visual effects, best practices for training managers, scenario and curriculum development, future product design, and incorporating virtual reality simulators into a training environment. GlobalSim managers also conducted a useful feedback session to receive input for future development projects.

“We brought together some of our best clients from around the world”, says Brad Ball, GlobalSim’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, who helped organize the event. “The User Conference was twice the size of last year’s event – we had clients and attendees from all around the world who were eager to learn and collaborate with each other.” Participants in this year’s conference came from Belgium, Canada, France, Japan, Philippines, Morocco, and many from within the United States. Some even extended their stay to visit Southern Utah on an excursion to Zions National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park.

Many of the speakers at this year’s conference were GlobalSim clients who gave brief presentations to the attendees on how their organization conducts successful training with simulators. Training consultant Craig Goodwin, from CEG Training Solutions was also a guest speaker at the event.

The conference was held in conjunction with a product showcase featuring three (3) Full Motion Simulators that are set to be delivered to the New York Shipping Association and Port of Newark Container Terminal later this month. Following the educational sessions, participants visited GlobalSim headquarters and had the opportunity to test the new simulators as well as the latest GlobalSim virtual reality simulators which were also on display. “The Conference was very timely for our Team as we were also able to test our new Crane/Strad/RTG Simulators prior to shipping” remarked Barbara Blanton, the Director of Safety and Training at New York Shipping Association. “The information shared by the GlobalSim Associates, in each of the sessions, along with presentations from their Global Clients, made for very interesting and exciting dialogue. We made the right choice in partnering with GlobalSim. Awesome People! Awesome Products!”

The User Conference comes during a period of growth for GlobalSim. “This year alone we’ve sold and delivered 32 simulators and counting” remarks Jonathan McCurdy, GlobalSim’s President and CEO. “As we’ve attracted new customers, we’ve also invested in our business and hired more employees. The User Conference allows us to bring our employees and clients together, gather some feedback, collaborate, and share our vision of the future.”

GlobalSim plans to hold the next User Conference in 2019.
