Sen. Lee Opposes House Health Care Bill

WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued the following statement Tuesday after reviewing the latest version of the American Health Care Act:

“I promised the people of Utah I would do everything I can to repeal Obamacare.” Lee said. “The American Health Care Act fails to both repeal Obamacare and replace it with an alternative that lowers costs. Additionally, its reforms to Medicaid fail to either incentivize state innovation or place the program on a financially sustainable path. I am a no.”

Lee continued, “There is a lot of miscommunication out there about what can and cannot be done under the Senate’s Byrd Rule,” Lee added. “I recently discussed ideas and proposals with the Senate parliamentarian and she has not yet ruled on whether Obamacare’s regulations may or may not be repealed in the reconciliation process. It is also unclear whether any of the life protections in the House bill will make it through the process.”

“All of this suggests we should slow down this effort to get replace right.”
