Pleasant View—Weston Brian Lee, 17, of Pleasant View, was recently selected as a member of The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy’s 2015-2016 Youth Leadership Team (YLT).  The Youth Leadership Team is a diverse group of 14 teens from across the country—each of whom serve an 18-month term.  The group’s first meeting took place in Washington, DC beginning on August 5.

Weston believes that the teen years are a time for individuals to develop the skills to live a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life.  An unplanned pregnancy can disrupt that, and he is excited to work with an organization that works to raise awareness of teen pregnancy.  Weston also enjoys running cross country and completed his first marathon in May.  He has volunteered for more than 500 hours with the Red Cross and is a Future Health Professionals State Officer.

The residents of Pleasant View have had their fair share of problems with Towers Sand and Gravel.  The City has had on going issues from the time this entity was established in 1976. There have been attempted regulations put on this in the 1990’s by having ordnances put on them for hours of operations.  There have also been discussions of travel routes and many other items over the years. To see the list, please go to : http://www.pleasantviewcity.com and look for the tab about Commercial/ Gravel trucks in Pleasant View.  Thereafter, you will have a full understanding of what has been done and the myths and facts about the operation.  However, the Tower Sand and Gravel company has a constitutional right to run their business and Pleasant View has an obligation to give them access to their property. With their land being land-locked, the City now has to have travel routes that will take trucks through residential areas, making residents unhappy. More regulations and other alternative routes are being looked at, but this means it’s still several years before any big changes are made.

Recreation registration for Girls Basketball was August 1st-30th for the season that starts end of October.   Boys Basketball registration is October 1st-30th for the season that starts the first Saturday in January.  Co-Ed Flag Football season started the end of August.
