Utah Food Bank’s Hunger Action MonthTM Food Drive Will Stock Shelves for Winter

Participation in this Statewide Food Drive is Part of a National Effort

SALT LAKE CITY – September 21, 2015 - The upcoming statewide Hunger Action MonthTM Food Drive will be held on Saturday, September 26th from 9 AM to 1 PM, with Walmart stores across the state serving as drop-off locations.  Food can also be donated at any of Utah Food Bank’s 134 partner agencies and local food pantries across the state, or at Utah Food Bank’s warehouse at 3150 S. 900 W. in Salt Lake.  Utah Food Bank is requesting that the public donate non-perishable, nutritious food items, especially those low in sodium and sugar. Items high in protein such as canned meats and chili, boxed meals and peanut butter top Utah Food Bank’s most needed items list this year.

In September, Utah Food Bank (part of Feeding America’s nationwide network of food banks), unites to urge individuals to take action in their communities. The goal of national Hunger Action MonthTM is to mobilize the public to act on behalf of those in need. It creates a movement throughout September that has a real and lasting impact on Utah Food Bank’s mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide.

Approximately 444,000 Utahns are unsure where their next meal will come from, and 1 in 5 Utah children are at risk of missing a meal today due to lack of resources. September is a crucial time for donations to ensure that Utahns of all ages have enough food to get through the challenging winter months.

“Utah Food Bank is calling on the public to support our Hunger Action MonthTM Food Drive, and we are incredibly grateful to all of those who join in the effort,” said Ginette Bott, Chief Development Officer for Utah Food Bank. “We encourage businesses, church groups, schools, individuals and families to organize food drives in their communities and bring the donations they collect to one of our many convenient drop-off sites on September 26th.” For more details about the many ways you can get involved in Hunger Action Month, including a list of Hunger Action Month Food Drive drop-off locations, please visit www.utahfoodbank.org/hungeractionmonth.
