SANDY COROLES APPOINTED SUPERINTENDENT
OF THE OGDEN SCHOOL DISTRICT
Ogden, Utah – January 22, 2015 – The Ogden School District Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Sandy Coroles as district superintendent during the public board meeting held this evening. Coroles has been serving since October as interim superintendent following Brad Smith’s departure from the district to become the Utah State Superintendent of Public Instruction. With this appointment, she becomes the 16th Superintendent to lead the Ogden School District. Previously Coroles was the district’s assistant superintendent.
“I am excited this opportunity to serve has been made permanent. I have enjoyed the last few months as interim and appreciate the support of many as we made a smooth transition in leadership.” said Coroles regarding her appointment to Superintendent. “I look forward to moving the school district forward and empowering excellence in all.”
Superintendent Coroles has been an educator for 30 years, with 25 of those years working in the Ogden School District. After graduating from Weber State University in Elementary Education, she taught first and third grade in the Weber School District for five years before coming to Ogden in 1989 to teach special education students. After receiving a Masters in Psychology from Utah State University, Coroles became a counselor at Dee Elementary. She was the coordinator for the Family Center at Central Middle School before becoming the principal of Gramercy Elementary in 2002.
Coroles served as the first principal of Heritage Elementary when it opened in 2008. At Heritage, she worked to create the new school’s identity and culture. In 2010, the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals recognized her as the Instructional Leader of the Year. Following her time at Heritage, Coroles was the Executive Director of Federal Programs and Curriculum, during which time she was honored as the district Administrator of the Year, before being named assistant superintendent in 2012.
For the last four years, Coroles has been the district shepherd of the school turn around process working directly with principals and teachers to raise the proficiency of students in low performing schools. She is currently the chair of the Northern Utah Curriculum Consortium and serves on the board of the Utah Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She holds professional endorsements in reading and English as a Second language. Coroles is actively involved in the Junior League of Ogden and is a long-time member of the community having attended Grandview Elementary, Mount Ogden Jr. High and Ogden High School as a youth.
