Utah's First- I Support the Girls Bra & Feminine Hygiene Drive for Homeless and Refugee Women in Need This Holiday Season
Utah, November 23, 2016- Courtney Killpack, bra fitting expert of Bra Fittings by Court and Director of the Utah Chapter non-profit, I Support the Girls, is partnering with six local women owned businesses to put together the first Utah Bra & Feminine Hygiene Drive. All items will be donated to six local women shelters in Utah to help the 6,000+ girls and women who are homeless, refugees, and victims of domestic and sexual violence. The drive goes until December 31st.
“Can you imagine what it would be like to be a homeless woman and not be able to afford basic hygiene necessities, like a bra and tampons? This can prevent these women from obtaining employment and make it harder to get back on their feet. Women shouldn't have to decide to either feed themselves or take care of their basic health needs. Every woman deserves to have dignity, no matter their circumstances,” Utah Director of I Support the Girls, Courtney Killpack says.
There's a huge need for bras and feminine hygiene products because they are rarely donated. Many girls and women in need go without these necessities. “The purpose of this drive is to help women feel empowered and confident to help these women get out of their tough situations,” Killpack says. “By having these items most of us women take for granted, we can greatly impact and change the lives of so many girls and women.” The goal of this drive is to donate 2,000 bras and 5,000 hygiene products. Women can drop off their gently used and clean bras and new feminine hygiene products to designated I Support the Girls baskets at one of six donation locations throughout Utah.
The six donation locations are the following: ● Lace by Louise- 344 500 W #2, Bountiful ● Recycled Design- 63 W Center Street, Cedar City ● Serendipity Salon- 678 N Main St, Logan ● Baby Bump Maternity- 171 E 2500 S, Ogden ● Platinum Salon- 594 E 800 S, Orem ● Bra Bar Boutique- 1352 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City
In January, all donated items will be given to the following six local women shelters: ● Safe Harbor in Davis County ● Canyon Creek Women's Crisis Center in Cedar City
● Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse (CAPSA) in Logan ● Your Community Connection in Ogden ● Women's & Children in Crisis Center in Utah County ● Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in Salt Lake City
To date, I Support the Girls has donated over 35,000 bras and 135,000 menstrual products to homeless and domestic violence organizations in the US.

Robyn Needham of Ogden, Utah, treated 15 of her friends to a customized cooking class and brunch as the Grand Prize winner of Round 2 of the 2016 Healthy Living Challenge, part of the year-long Get Up and Growl™ Together initiative and nationwide tour sponsored by Dole and the Dole Nutrition Institute (DNI) to encourage healthy eating and living.
By winning the Get Up and Grow! Together team competition, Needham received a special lunch and learn hosted by Amy Tobin of Q102 radio’s “Amy’s Table: A Guide to Living” and Mark Allison, Dole’s director of culinary nutrition. Tobin and Allison traveled to Needham’s home in Ogden to lead a lunch celebration on Nov. 13, featuring special recipes developed by Tobin to showcase the culinary possibilities of fresh fruits and vegetables.
“Part of my role as a nutrition coach and radio host is to introduce the public to the type of culinary experiences that you wouldn’t think are possible with fruits and vegetables alone,” said Tobin. “We loved working with Julie and her colleagues to show them just how healthy, delicious and memorable an office lunch can be.”
Kicking-off with Southwest Gazpacho Shooters and Shrimp and Melon Appetizers, Tobin and Allison’s customized menu featured Cinnamon-spice Café Banana Frappes with Quinoa and Bulgur Wheat Salad with Citrus and Vegetables featuring citrus zest and pistachios, followed by Pickled Berry and Pineapple Yogurt Parfaits with Multigrain Granola Crunch. Guests were also treated to homemade Pine-Berry Spice Punch.
“For the event, I wanted a menu full of fruits and vegetables that centered around healthy alternatives to snacking when watching sports during the holiday season,” said Needham. “We all decided to take the Healthy Living Challenge together, so it was exciting to celebrate our winning as a group and enjoy these delicious Get Up and Grow! recipes.”
