Dog days of summer super adoption event, discounted kitten adoption fees
HSU holding super adoption event due to limited shelter hours during gala
Over 80 animals will be available for a super adoption event at Petsmart due to limited hours of operation at the Humane Society of Utah during their Third Annual “Wags to Wishes” Gala Saturday, June 20, 2015. The shelter will only be open from 10 a.m. to noon in order to prepare for the large fundraiser that evening. Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the Petsmart located at 389 W. 1830 S. in Salt Lake City to see the shelter’s adoptable animals. The adoption fee for kittens has been reduced to one for $50 or two for $70. Rabbits are also discounted to one for $20 or two for $30.
“We recently waived the adoption fees on all cats 1-year-old and older because of the increased intake of cats and kittens this season,” said Jessica Almeida, transfer director of the Humane Society of Utah. “The special has helped us adopt 129 cats so far in June but we are still receiving many new cats and are getting more kittens in as well.”
A number of kittens that have been in foster care are now of age to be spayed/neutered and adopted.
The shelter currently has over 150 felines. The discounted adoption fees will continue into July until further notice.
The Third Annual “Wags to Wishes” Gala is the second largest fundraiser of the year for the Humane Society of Utah. 2014 Olympic silver medalist, Gus Kenworthy is the guest of honor at the gala. As a member of the inaugural U.S. Olympic slopestyle team during the 2014 Winter Olympics, Gus took to the podium for one of only three U.S. podium sweeps in Winter Olympic Games history.
In addition to his amazing career, Gus is known by many for something else that he accomplished while in Sochi, Russia. He made headlines by saving a family of stray dogs – a mom and four pups that he met on the streets of the Ol
