SEN. HATCH INTRODUCES LEGISLATION TO EMPOWER FIGHTERS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Sen. Orrin Hatch pushes to create Public-Private Partnership Advisory Council to work with groups like Operation Underground Railroad

Salt Lake City, UT - Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) introduced legislation to create the Public-Private Partnership Advisory Council with the goal of empowering private organizations such as Utah’s Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) to combat human trafficking. The council will serve as a point of contact for federal agencies coordinating with anti-human trafficking nonprofits and NGOs for input and advise on relevant programming and policies. It will also formulate assessments and recommendations for federal agencies to ensure these agencies are using the most effective practices from tracking criminals to proper rehabilitation and aftercare of survivors.

“Nongovernmental organizations and nonprofit groups like Utah’s Operation Underground Railroad have done incredible work in fighting the scourge of human trafficking and bringing this critical fight to the forefront,” Hatch said. “I believe that with better cooperation and partnership with federal government agencies, they can do even more, and the key to that is coordination. This Public-Private Partnership Advisory Council will allow government agencies to draw from the unique knowledge and experience of groups like O.U.R., allowing us to leverage government resources to fight human trafficking around the world.”

“Real partnerships like this with the U.S. government and other governments around the world are vital to achieving our goal of eradicating child sex trafficking. Sen. Hatch has been one of our most vocal supporters in the Senate,” O.U.R. CEO Tim Ballard said. “We look forward to working with his office in getting this bill passed and collaborating with our government partners to achieve our common goal.”

Operation Underground Railroad is registered 501(c)3 organization. Bringing together former CIA, Navy SEALs, and Special Ops operatives, O.U.R. partners with local law enforcement agencies around the world to save children from this modern day slavery. Founded by CEO Tim Ballard in 2013, O.U.R. has rescued more than 650 victims and helped arrest over 275 traffickers worldwide.
