Update for 8/22: UTGR's Affirmative Agenda Shames Utah's Corrupt Regime

UTGR's Affirmative Agenda Shames Utah's Corrupt Regime
How corrupt and illegitimate is Utah's "pay-to-play" government?  Take a look at UT Gun Rights' Affirmative Agenda at
http://utgunrights.com/freeammo/affirmative-agenda.htm

Your right to keep and bear arms can only be safeguarded when government officials and agents are tightly restrained by a framework of clear and ethical policies.  These policies must reinforce meaningful due process for those accused of criminal activity, punish those who abuse power, and foster an attitude of respect toward you.

You may not agree with every proposed policy, but as you ponder them collectively, consider how antagonistic Utah's political environment is toward simple ethics and decency.  As always, your feedback is welcome.

UT Gun Rights promotes the right of individuals to keep and
bear firearms, responsible and confident firearms ownership
and use, and political accountability at the state and local level.

It is your natural right to defend yourself from unjust attacks
by any individual, mob, or government. This is self-evident to all
but the naïve – and the corrupt politicians and institutions that
manipulate them.

Online School Growing, Students Return For New School Year

Utah Connections Academy Students Begin New School Year Aug. 21

WOODS CROSS, Utah (Aug. 22, 2017) – Following a year of notable enrollment growth, Utah Connections Academy (UCA) will welcomed its student body back for the 2017-18 school year on August 21.

UCA, a statewide, online public school that serves students in kindergarten through 12th grade, saw its enrollment increase by nearly 30 percent over the past 18 months. While a majority of the school’s enrollment is from Davis, Salt Lake and Utah counties, UCA has also experienced marked growth in Tooele, Weber and Iron counties over the past year.

“Every student has unique educational needs and we are fortunate to be able to provide an environment that recognizes that truth,” Jeff Herr, Utah Connections Academy principal, said. “Our families all have unique reasons for choosing online school, and we’re here to support our students in ways that allow them to grow and thrive.”

The school’s annual Parent Satisfaction Survey revealed that a majority of the families who have chosen UCA did so because they were looking for greater flexibility to accommodate outside interests such as sports teams, the arts or employment. Others simply wanted a change from their neighborhood school, or desired a learning environment that they felt was safer.  The student satisfaction survey revealed that UCA students are happy they chose to attend UCA, especially among middle and high school students.

Regardless of the reason for enrolling, students are finding success at UCA. The school’s most recent graduating class secured more than $28,000 in scholarships. Nine students from the Class of 2017 actually graduated early, collectively receiving $7,500 in Centennial Scholarships.

Based in Woods Cross, Utah Connections Academy delivers personalized schooling to students statewide. Enrollment for the 2017-18 school year is ongoing. More information is also available at www.UtahConnectionsAcademy.com or by calling (801) 298-6660.

Consumer Watchdog Responds to EU’s Extension of Bayer, Monsanto Merger Approval Deadline

SumOfUs applauds EU Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager for initiating an in-depth antitrust assessment of the merger between Bayer and Monsanto

Moments ago, EU regulators initiated an in-depth antitrust assessment of the $66 billion Bayer Monsanto merger. If approved, the merger would be the largest acquisition in German corporate history. European regulators now have until the 8 January 2018  to approve the deal, which the global consumer group SumOfUs argues would be a major threat to the global food supply and the global economy.

In response, Anne Isakowitsch, campaign manager at SumOfUs, released the following statement:

“The EU’s decision to further examine the Bayer, Monsanto merger could not come soon enough. This merger marks a severely dangerous consolidation of corporate power and massive threat to food supplies and farmers around the world, and these mega corporations are closer than ever to making that happen.

“EU regulators must recognize the unique threats posed by a Bayer-Monsanto merger and move swiftly to reject their proposal.A merged Bayer-Monsanto will be relentless in its pursuit of putting  corporate profits over the protection of small  farms— eventually driving up prices for consumers. Farming families and communities across the EU will carry the burden of this giant merger.

“We urge Commissioner Vestager to consider the disastrous implications of this merger and for citizens to write her expressing their concern.”

Over 721,700 SumOfUs members around the world signed onto a petition opposing the potential merger of Monsanto and Bayer.
