Survey to Gather Input on Course Credit Requirements in Utah
Members of the public are invited to take a short survey conducted by the Utah State Board of
Education in regard to course credit requirements for grades 7 through 12.
The survey can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/r/UtahCourseCreditRequirements.It closes
Friday, April 28, 2017.
A task force recently formed by the State Board of Education is beginning to examine course credit
requirements for grades 7-12. As a first step, the task force would like to gather input on this topic from
a variety of stakeholders.
“We are ultimately looking for new ways to promote each student’s academic success,” said Laura
Belnap, chair of the Graduation Credit Task Force. “We are looking for ways to build upon Utah’s public
education system and provide an opportunity for each student to thrive. Doing what is in the best
interest of students can only be accomplished through community engagement.”
Parents, educators, and any interested residents are invited to take the survey. Some questions include
open-response boxes in which additional comments can be made.
The task force, comprised of members of the State Board and staffed by education and policy experts
employed by the Board, will continue meeting throughout the spring and summer. Several small
meetings with stakeholders are planned to gather more specific feedback on the issue. Input from the
survey and stakeholder meetings will inform any recommendations made by the task force to the full
State Board.
