Utah Board of Juvenile Justice to present “Youth Advocate of the Year” award to two state lawmakers

 

What: In 2015, Gov. Gary Herbert declared October “Youth Justice Awareness Month” (YJAM). Each Oct., the Utah Board of Juvenile Justice (UBJJ) hosts a ceremony in celebration of YJAM. This year’s event is themed “Pipeline to Success: Celebrating Partnerships in Reform”.

 

The 2017 YJAM event will highlight policy changes to 2017 Utah H.B. 239, Juvenile Justice Amendments. UBJJ will award the “Youth Advocate of the Year” to state Rep. Lowry Snow and state Sen. Todd Weiler for their legislative efforts to improve the juvenile justice system. UBJJ will also award “Youth Spirit Award” to Ms. Nindy Le, youth member and chair of the UBJJ’s Youth Committee.   

 

The Honorable Steve Teske, National Chair of the Coalition for Juvenile Justice, will keynote the event.

Thurs., Oct. 26, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m.

This event is organized in partnership with the Utah Division of Juvenile Justices, Utah Juvenile Court, and the Utah Juvenile Defender Attorneys & Resource Center.
