At the Capitol building this afternoon, Jonathan Johnson, republican candidate for Governor announced his Lt. Governor running mate, Robyn Bagley.
Robyn is the founder and principal of an innovative blended learning early college high school called Career Path High. Career Path High is a unique charter school located on the Davis Applied Technology College campus.
In making his decision, Jonathan stated he is “impressed with her (Robyn’s) knowledge of education policy and her dedication to empowering students, parents and educators in maximizing the potential of Utah’s students.”
Regarding the appointment Robyn stated, “I am truly honored Jonathan believes in my qualifications and views my accomplishments, skills and work ethic as a good fit for the position of Lt. Governor. I'm proud to stand with him.
In her speech Robyn expressed her concern in Gov. Herbert’s federally inclined actions stating, “In May 2010, Herbert fulfilled his and the National Governor’s Association goal and with his signature signed our students up for the highly controversial Common Core, giving the federal government expanded control over the education of Utah’s children.”
Robyn outlined her vision for education stating, “I believe we need to better personalize and localize our children’s education. Education should focus on the individual child and not be beholden to an outdated, one-size-fits-all system. We believe in empowering parents, students and local educators through local solutions.”
Robyn continued, posing the following questions to Utahns: “Do you trust Gov. Herbert to not raise your taxes again? Do you trust Gov. Herbert to lead on getting Utah students out of Common Core and localize and personalize our student’s education? Do you think Utah can do it better?”
In closing, Robyn stated, “I have learned that managers manage within the status quo. While strong leaders look right in the eye of the existing state of affairs, challenge the situation, and take us to new and better places. While Herbert may ask you, ‘Why risk it?’ I respond, ‘Utah, don’t settle.’”
Final words from Jonathan regarding his Lt. Governor pick included, “I’m excited to partner with Robyn. I’m eager for Utahns to get to know Robyn as I know her. She will be a great public servant.”

Salt Lake City, Utah-
At the Salt Palace Convention Center, over 3800 Republican Delegates gathered to elect who would represent them in the Utah gubernatorial race.
Two rounds of balloting occurred. Jonathan Johnson won the first round of balloting with 55 percent of the vote, Gary Herbert took 44 percent, and both Carlos Tavares and Nate Jensen received less than one-percent.
In the second round of balloting the delegates again voted 55 percent for Jonathan Johnson and 44 Percent for Gary Herbert.
Johnson said regarding the victory, "I am ecstatic and enthused at today's tremendous win. Today's victory is a testament that delegates and voters know Utah can do it better. We can do better in localizing and personalizing our education model, stretching our tax dollars and managing our own lands. I am honored and thank the delegates for trusting me to lead Utah to new heights. The momentum won't stop here."
Johnson's speech focused on ending the common core mandate, stopping future tax increases and gaining control of Utah's public lands from the federal government.
He concluded speech by saying, "Now, Governor Herbert focuses on Utah's past accomplishments and asks, 'Why risk it?' But I look to the future and boldly say, 'Don't settle!
