Pleasant View City Elections

Tony Pitman is running for Pleasant View City Council because he thinks most residents feel as he does about the future of their great city. He started attending the Planning Commission meetings when a developer wanted to build condo style residential buildings on Highway 89 near his house.

He was soon appointed to the Planning Commission, and served there for 1½ years. While serving on the commission, he worked to promote single family homes with lots of open space and an open, rural atmosphere. Mr. Pitman feels most residents move here and stay here for that reason.

While serving on the Planning Commission, he also started attending the City Council meetings. At first he was surprised at how few people came to the meetings and got involved in the City’s government. When a position came open with Mel Marker leaving, he applied for the position. He has now served on the Council for several months and has learned some great things about how to be a council member. He says he has served the residents well by working towards keeping the same type of city that they all want.

Mr. Pitman states, “I also have learned that being a good council member is not just about listening to the residents. We must do that so we keep in touch with what everyone wants for our city. Along with listening, however, a good city council member must believe in and work towards the same things the residents want even when they are not around. In this way, we can all be assured that what the majority of us desire will be accomplished when we are not there to say something. This is representative government at its best.”

Mr. Pitman has several things which he says are important to him that he will pursue:

A clean, open, rural city with lots of open space, large lots sizes and as little traffic as possible, as well as, good roads that are kept repaired and improved; and high quality businesses that take an interest in our community like the Pepsi plant and their beautiful American flag, CSM bakery goods, the Straw Market and many other great businesses.  He wants to find ways to grow the business district.

He feels that good tasting, clean water from wells and springs are important.

When asked about Prop 1, he states that he is personally against it but was in favor of it being on the ballot so that citizens could decide for themselves.

Jerold Burns – As printed in previous issue: Mr. Burns feels grateful to have served as a Pleasant View City Council member for the past four years and seeks the opportunity to do so for one more term.   Four years ago, his hope was to improve the city’s parks and pathways and to maintain an effective and efficient city government while planning for future community growth. During this time the following projects in these areas have been completed: east end walking path (The East End Walking Path is scheduled for completion in spring of 2016), new playground at City Park and 2 at Shady Lane Park, new Pickle ball courts at City Park, increased grass play area and completed parking at Shady Lane. There is new trail access to the Bonneville Shoreline trail.  The City has funding approval and design toward completion of west end walking path. Mr. Burns states, “It has been a privilege to be involved with these projects; however, there are still some areas that have been initiated which I would like to continue.  For instance, the Skyline Drive complication needs to be resolved in order reduce truck traffic problems, water resources have been increased with one new well, however, additional resources are still critically needed; road maintenance and repairs require higher priorities to keep up with wear and deterioration; and continued conservative use of budget resources and efficient management practices to maintain a high quality life in Pleasant View.

*Sentinel News was unable to get additional comments from Mr. Burns for this issue. Also, Boyd Hansen, Michael Humphreys and Sara Urry did not respond to either phone calls or e-mails.   We wish all the candidates good luck and check out our online addition for election results at
