The Sabrina Merage Foundation Commences 3-Year Grant Commitment to Expand Capacity for Warm Cookies of the Revolution

September 26, 2016 (Denver, CO) – The Sabrina MerageFoundation is pleased to announce its continued support and expanded commitment to Denver-based Warm Cookies of the Revolution. As Denver’s award-winning "civic health club," Warm Cookies of the Revolution seeks to answer the questions “What do we want?” and “How do we get there?” by hosting events that are creative and fun to engage citizens in important community discussions. They work to meet people where they are by holding events in centrally-located community spaces, and encourage program participants to take ownership, be creative, and engage to create positive change for themselves and those around them.

The Sabrina Merage Foundations expanded three-year commitment aims to help strengthen the young non-profit’s infrastructure and programs while further developing the organization’s operating model to achieve scale and sustainability. “We are excited about the powerful work that Warm Cookies of the Revolution is doing in Denver, and see the importance of these critical conversations to help guide our future,” said Sabrina Merage Naim, founder of the Sabrina Merage Foundation. “We would like to see more and more communities engaging in these thought-provoking, community-based discussions and be inspired to take action in their respective communities in the days, weeks and months that follow each event,” Sabrina added.

Through stimulating discussions surrounding vital issues of good governance, environment, justice, life-long learning, family, and work/life balance, they encourage people to be proud, active voices in their communities, resulting in more power over the critical decisions that affect their lives.

Author shares story of ‘mompreneurship’ in new book

Debra Dingman releases debut, ‘Learning A+ Living,’ to help mothers live fully

DALLAS – “Learning A+ Living: Adventures & Rewards of a Mom Entrepreneur” (published by WestBow Press) is the story of author Debra Dingman, a Northern California mother who “prefers comfortable shoes to high heels and who lived with crazy hormones, wild children, and unplanned career changes.”

Dingman wrote the book to help validate a lifetime of part-time jobs, jobs off her career path and entrepreneurship, “proving that even ‘ordinary women’ can also experience a rich journey.”

“Many women give up their job for a home-based business as soon as they find out how much childcare costs,” she says. “But teaching classes out of their home, sub-contracting, or owning a small business is still important work and is valuable to our economy.”

“My story is the discovery that work is the counterbalance of home in where life happens,” Dingman said. “If we are open and teachable, there are many lessons to learn—some are sad and some are funny but all contribute to whom we become: People who don’t wear fancy shoes.” She hopes her adventures will encourage readers to draw their strength from God.

State, Local Education and Business Leaders to Light Pathway to Student Achievement at October Public Forum

Renowned education minds, local leaders will discuss ways students can capitalize on Tennessee Promise

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Randy Boyd will join state and local education, government and business leaders to engage students, parents and community members at an October public forum in Columbia, Tennessee related to student achievement.

The event, entitled “Unlocking the Keys to Student Success: Opening the Door to Opportunity,” will explore ways students can capitalize on the Tennessee Promise program and outline what community members can do to help students along the path to success, with emphasis on the tnAchieves program. Tennessee Promise and tnAchieves are revolutionary initiatives designed to increase in-state community college enrollment and improve academic achievement.

Columbia Daily Herald Editor James Bennett will moderate the event, which will take place at Puckett’s in downtown Columbia Tuesday, October 25 at 6 p.m.

The summit, organized by the Maury County Chamber and Economic Alliance in coordination with Maury County Public Schools (MCPS), seeks to build on the momentum the #GrowMaury education initiative has generated by empowering the county’s workers of the future and equipping mentors with the tools they need to support them.

“This will be a must-attend event for students, especially high schoolers, as well as their parents,” said Maury County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Chris Marczak. “As juniors and seniors prepare for college and the workforce, the forum will show them ways to unlock their potential using the MCPS Seven Keys to College and Career Readiness.”

The discussion will explore new ideas by cultivating state leaders’ and experts’ knowledge of best practices and harvesting the boots-on-the-ground understanding of local leaders. In addition to Commissioner Boyd, the panel includes tnAchieves Director of College Access Amanda Bolden, Columbia State Community College President Dr. Janet Smith, SCORE President David Mansouri and other Maury County business and education leaders.

The general public is invited to attend along with students, parents and educators. Those who cannot attend may follow the live Twitter feed using the designated hashtag #UnlockingTheKeys.

Students who attend will receive an additional entry into the Strive to Drive program, a contest offered by Columbia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram that gives a free car to a random high-achieving Maury County high school senior every year.

Marczak and the panel will explore ways to deepen student involvement in Tennessee Promise and unlock other opportunities to help students make a successful transition from high school to college and the workforce. The event will also provide younger students and parents with a road map to success by informing them of important educational steps they can take.

“We are extremely excited to see the community gather for this event,” said Maury Alliance President Wil Evans. “The willingness of so many great minds to come together in one room shows this community’s dedication to the future of our youth.”
