At the Farr West City Council Meeting held on the 15th of November 2012, a new mayor was appointed. Mayor Jimmie Papegeorge was serving his 19th year as Mayor of Farr West when he passed away in his home, Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the age of 83. A public notice was posted October 30th seeking applicants to fill the position of Mayor till the end of Papgeorge’s term, January 2014. The Council members voted 3 to 2 and Lee Dickemore was appointed to fill the position.
Mayor Dickemore has been a resident of Farr West for 66 years. He has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Administration. Dickemore has currently been serving on the City Council for two terms where he has been over beautification of the city for seven years. Dickemore has also been over the Farr West Recreation Center. As Mayor, Dickemore would like to encourage the development of 2700 North. He says he is not a micro-manager. He is “conservative, but will spend money”. A public announcement to fill the City Council Chair will be posted. A new City Council member will be appointed December 6th.
During the meeting, the R. Ray Ward Construction Property located at 2375 North 2000 West was re-zoned. The property went from residential to commercial property. While renovating the house that stood on the property, an old log home was discovered behind the sheetrock. The old log home has been renovated. It is now serving as the new office building for R. Ray Ward Construction Company.
The City Council members reported on current projects they are involved with. Paul Dinsdale is working with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to include a safety sidewalk along 2700 North. UDOT is planning on breaking this into three separate projects.
Tom Burkland has been working with the Weber County Storm Coalition. There was an incident recently with Jiffy Lube dumping mop water and rinsing off equipment into neighboring storm drains. The management at Jiffy Lube has resolved this and it should not be a problem in the future.
Mayor Lee Dickemore has been working with the Mosquito Abatement Board. The airplane was flown from Hooper to North Ogden. It was reported 98.8% effective in killing mosquitos in the area. Also, Dickemore reported that the Recreation Center has been very busy. It is “being used to the max”. The equipment has recently been inspected and is in good condition.
Tim Shupe works with the Farr West Fire Department. The Fire Department has been extremely busy helping fight fires in other states. This has helped bring in some extra revenue for the City of Farr West. As a thank you for all their hard work and dedication, the Fire Department was given this money to spend how they wanted. Instead of buying new TV’s for their rec room, the Fire Department decided to buy a new truck to improve their ability to keep the residents of Farr West safe.
The next City Council meeting will be held November 29th at 7 pm.
