Hatch Congratulates former Staffer Makan Delrahim on Appointment as DOJ Antitrust Chief

“I have no doubt that Makan will serve our nation well as the next chief of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division.”

Washington, D.C.—Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, the senior member and former Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement following the announcement that President Trump has nominated White House Deputy Counsel Makan Delrahim to lead the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. Makan previously served as Chief Counsel and Staff Director when Senator Hatch chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“With more than 40 years of experience on the Senate Judiciary Committee, I have worked closely with some of the most brilliant legal minds this nation has to offer. But among them, Makan stands apart. Makan served for several years as my Chief Counsel, in which capacity he distinguished himself as a tireless worker, a trusted confidante, and a sharp policy mind. He was someone I could trust unconditionally, and I will always be grateful for his service. I have no doubt that Makan will serve our nation well as the next chief of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division.”

Hatch Statement on President Trump’s Energy Independence Executive Order

Washington, D.C.—Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, the senior Republican in the United States Senate, issued the following statement applauding President Trump’s energy independence executive order:

“Over the last eight years, I have had deep concerns with the EPA’s swarm of burdensome regulations put forth under the guise of the so-called Clean Power Plan. According to independent analysts, the Obama administration’s radical climate agenda was on track to destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs and impose significantly higher utility bills on families and businesses all while, according to EPA’s own model, producing no meaningful climate benefits. I congratulate President Trump on reversing these costly, ineffective, and onerous policies and putting forth a new plan to strengthen domestic energy production and our economy.”
