100-year-old time capsule to be extracted from Utah State Capitol

 

What: In anticipation of centennial celebration events, the Utah State Capitol Preservation Board will extract a 100-year-old time capsule from the capitol cornerstone and announce details on when it will be opened. Members will also discuss upcoming opportunities for Utah families to visit the building for the centennial celebration.

Governor Herbert appoints Greg Bell to UTA Board

SALT LAKE CITY (Sept. 28, 2016) – Attached is a letter from Gov. Gary R. Herbert detailing the acceptance of the resignation of H. David Burton and the appointment of Greg Bell to the Utah Transit Authority Board. Mr. Bell was sworn in Wed. Sept. 28, 2016 during the UTA Board Meeting.

Governor orders flags lowered in remembrance of President Shimon Peres

 

SALT LAKE CITY (Sept. 29, 2016) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the flag of the United States of America and the State of Utah at all state facilities as a mark of respect for the memory of Shimon Peres, former President and Prime Minister of Israel.

 

Gov. Herbert issued the following statement:

 

“I was privileged to meet President Peres during a diplomatic exchange at his residence in Jerusalem in 2013. I had flown out from Salt Lake, and I remember him telling me, ‘I welcome you from one holy city to another holy city.’ As one of Israel’s premier founding fathers, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy. His persistent efforts to bring lasting peace to the Middle East earned him a Nobel Prize and set him apart as one of the greatest leaders and statesmen of the last century. Jeanette and I mourn for the Israeli people, who are our friends and allies.”
