USDA REGIONAL FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICE LEADERS TO VISIT
OGDEN SCHOOL DISTRICT’S LUNCH PROGRAM
Ogden, Utah – February 2, 2015 – The Ogden School District will welcome officials from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service as they join students for lunch at Mound Fort Junior High School on Wednesday, February 4. The team from the Mountain Plans Regional Office will include Regional Division Director Darlene Sanchez, Schools Branch Chief David Von Behren and Public Affairs Director Devin Koontz. They will meet with district representatives, including Superintendent Sandy Coroles, to learn more about the school lunch program in Ogden School District and the successful implementation of the Community Eligibility Provision. Ogden was one of the first districts in Utah to use the new provision, which allows students access to a nutritious lunch in support of learning. Officials from the Utah State Office of Education Child Nutrition Program will also be in attendance.
The media is invited to be at the school at 12:00 noon as the USDA group arrives and tours the cafeteria and kitchen facilities. An overview of the Ogden School District child nutrition program will be provided including more information regarding why school lunch is vital to the achievement of Ogden students. The visitors and district officials will eat lunch with the students beginning at 12:20 p.m. Additional time for discussion on the implementation of the Community Eligibility Provision and related efforts to enhance the school lunch program in the Ogden School District will conclude at 1 p.m.
