Local resident, Genise Martin says she is happy that Representative Brian Greene from Utah County has filed a bill to allow individual school districts to opt out of Common Core – a federally prepared school curriculum. Greene says that he feels the bill is necessary because many parents feel like the State School Board and the Governor didn’t listen to them. President Obama mentioned the widespread acceptance of Common Core in his State of the Union address earlier this year. The Sentinel reported on the concerns of parents over Common Core earlier this year. Parents had expressed concerns over both the quality of the curriculum as well as the extensive data collection from families that the program would collect.
