UTAH FILMMAKERS BRING ONE OF THE "MOST IMPORTANT
FOREIGN POLICY ISSUES OF OUR TIME" TO SCREEN

Hundreds of Millions to See
New Documentary on Iranian Threat

Washington, DC –  Following successful previews on Capitol Hill and the White House, True Iran: The Global Jihad, a new documentary produced and directed by filmmakers with ties to Utah will soon be available to over 350 million people throughout the Middle East.

The film, co-produced and directed by William Nixon and McKay Daines, premieres August 30 in Salt Lake City, after a sneak preview in Washington, D.C., to a sold-out audience inside the United States Capitol.  At the Capitol Hill event, Senator Orrin Hatch called the film a "balanced, compelling, and authoritative account of the Iranian regime" which "will positively affect U.S. policy going forward."

Nixon, who also wrote the documentary, said it has already been licensed by Alhurra TV Networks, for broadcast to over 300 million in 22 countries and territories in the Middle East.  "We are delighted by its reception," he said, explaining that "Iranefarda TV, which broadcasts to 40 million within Iran has also picked it up for distribution."

The film details Iran's rise to become the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism, focusing on that nation's efforts to militarize, develop nuclear weapons, and even promote the illegal narcotics trade in the United States, including Utah.

Nixon and Daines—native Utahans—who have been friends for 30 years, decided to collaborate on the documentary, following up on Nixon's interest in Iran and his love for the Iranian people, which developed when he worked on the staff of Senator Hatch in the early 1980s.  "Bill and I had been looking for something to collaborate on for years," said Daines, an award-winning director, whose film credits include The Dance, Age of the Dragons, and the forth-coming Shadow Wolves and Michael Vey television series.

"Senator Hatch had me working on the Iranian portfolio back in 1980, reuniting families that were split apart after the Iranian Revolution, when the Ayatollah Khomeini came to power, took Americans hostage, and travel was frozen between the two nations.  So many husbands and fathers returned to Iran from Utah to secure their assets, and they were trapped from returning to their families in the U.S.  The drama of that time has stayed with me these near-four decades, and this film was cathartic, bringing up difficult but also wonderful memories."

"We are pleased to see its receptivity in Congress and the White House," said Daines.  "The film features Senator Bob Corker, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and it is having an impact.  In fact, we were delighted when Congress recently voted to increase sanctions on the Iranian government.  A final vote will be coming when Congress reconvenes.  Our documentary is literally the story behind those headlines."

Senator Corker has characterized the Iranian threat as one of the "most important foreign issues of our time."

The documentary will premiere in Utah tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Jordan Commons Megaplex in Sandy.  A few tickets may still be available by going to goo.gl/4xgpfL and entering the password: Freedom.
