Senator Jim Dabakis Reacts to SLC Mayor Jackie Biskupski Nominating Him to the UTA Board

Senator Dabakis today released the following comments:

"Today I said YES to serving on the UTA Board of Trustees (pending approval by the SLC Council). I realize there may be some heartburn in some circles.

But my soul shouts--either serve or shut up!

When Mayor Jackie first asked me to serve on the UTA (Utah Transit Authority) Board, I said, no-ish. But, she was persuasive. SLC is desperate NOW for transportation solutions (and more damn buses). And to move forward, UTA desperately needs to earn back the trust of Utahns. I believe I can help.

I passionately feel that UTA needs independent, unencumbered, always truthful, voices on the Board.

I believe that UTA must go beyond perfunctory GRAMA compliance. It must welcome sunshine into its organizational soul. Taxpayer supported organizations should have very few secrets.

UTA says it has turned the corner. Maybe it has. But like the public, I am skeptical, we have heard that before from UTA. However, I promise to keep an open mind. If things are getting better--I will say that loudly.

I pledge, if approved by the City Council, to be there to serve Salt Lake City, all riders, taxpayers, and UTA employees; NOT developers, board members, or special interests who do business with UTA!

I pledge to the people of Salt Lake City and all across the UTA empire--I will be honest, loud, relentless, probing, fair, and I will never, ever ever collect a dime--directly or indirectly from UTA. No salary, no per diem, no free trips, and no free UTA rides. Ever.

Finally, I pledge to do all I can to immediately build back the fallen trust in our UTA--so we can roar off into the future. Salt Lake City needs to get on the bus. Utah needs to get on the bus!"

BEBOP SENSORS ANNOUNCES MARCEL MODULAR DATA GLOVE SOLUTIONS FOR VIRTUAL REALITY OEMS

Launches Low Cost Full-Featured Data Gloves with Haptic Feedback for VR/AR ApplicationsSenses Knuckle & Abduction Motions of the Human Hand in 5, 10, & 14 Sensor Versions

Berkeley, CA, May 31, 2017 — BeBop Sensors, Inc. www.bebopsensors.com, the leader in smart fabric sensor technology, announced today BeBop Sensors designed Marcel Modular Data Gloves for OEMS in the Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality markets. Designed for accurate control and navigation in VR/AR environments, the BeBop Data Gloves are available to OEMs in 5, 10, and 14 sensor versions. The data gloves provide haptic feedback and sense knuckle and abduction motion of the human hand.

Data Gloves for Real-Time Control of Games & Environments

BeBop’s basic configuration provides high speed sensor processing as well as a 6 or 9 DoF (Degrees of Freedom) IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), which measures acceleration and angular rate. Fast, deterministic sensing provides sub-frame latency at 120 Hz for real-time control of games and environments. Designed by award-winning musical instrument creator and BeBop Sensors CEO, Keith McMillen, McMillen said: “All controllers need to be accurate and fast. If latency is more than 6-8 milliseconds, you are out of the band.”

Tactile & Audio Haptics Communicate a More Realistic Touch Experience

Mezzanine boards can be added to the printed circuit board assembly stack to add functionality, such as translation and haptic electronics. Haptics built into the fingertips provide a four octave range for complex stimuli that can convey surface quality and object contact. These non-resonant haptic actuators help close the loop of interaction between humans and virtual devices with contact and continuous surface sounds that drive the actuators, communicating a more realistic touch experience. A haptic audio creation kit is available, enabling content creators to customize and add to the haptic library.

Using BeBop’s patented fabric sensor technology, BeBop Sensors’ Marcel Modular Data Gloves are an affordable and robust solution for VR/AR and gaming environments. Key features include:

  • Modular: Marcel is a modular data glove solution.
  • Accurate & Fast: 120 Hz sub-frame latency for real-time interaction.
  • Haptic Technology: contact and continuous surface audio drives haptic actuators.

BeBop Sensors-designed Marcel Modular Data Gloves are available exclusively for OEMs. For more information, contact BeBop Sensors at contact@bebopsensors.com, website: http://www.bebopsensors.com.

For lack of a better saying, there's an elephant in the room: debt. Sadly, the Utah Republican Party is in financial disarray.
