STATE OF THE CITY

With the election behind us, Harrisville City has quickly and easily transitioned to a new administration that will build upon the progress made in prior administrations. I welcome our new council members and asMayor, I am pleased to see how united and cooperative our community works to create a wonderful environment for businesses and families. Let me first report that Harrisville City has just successfully completed its annual audit. In this audit, the finances and administration of the city are well managed. Harrisville City has no debt, no bonds, and is run with efficiency. There were no compliance issues raised and a clean report has been sent to the state.

Now the planning of a new budget will soon commence. I pledge to you that Harrisville City will adopt a balanced budget. I also pledge to continue to provide the services that the residents of our community need and enjoy.

We also start this year off as one of the newest cities in the state to receive the “Business Friendly” community designation from the Governor. I commend our city staff who work to reduce local barriers to business and promote our community for retail commerce. Only a few cities in the state have received Governor Herbert’s “Business Friendly” designation and I am happy to be the Mayor of one of those few cities with this distinction. I also

acknowledge our top-notch police department that serves and protects our community. At our recent council meeting the City Council discussed and adopted some goals for 2014. Among these goals is our continued effort to promote business in our city; we also seek to expand our youth recreation programby improving publicity at our local schools. We are a city of many families with children, and youth recreation provides an opportunity for the

development of sportsmanship and a safe environment for our youth. Also, our parks are becoming more beautiful and popular each year as families gather and enjoy the outdoors. As we continue to grow, our community

has also made it a goal to revise and update our capital plans for land use, parks, and transportation. Planning now will help offset future costs and keep our taxes low for those already living in the community. I also express

thanks to our volunteers who serve on the Planning Commission for their efforts in building the future of our community.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve Harrisville City as its newest Mayor. My door is open to each of you to express your thoughts and vision for our future. I invite you to be part of Harrisville City as a volunteer or in a capacity that creates the wonderful community that we all envision.

Mayor Bruce Richin
