Drawing North is composed of Michael 'Po' Pogson (lead vocals), Drew Southwell (piano, drums, guitar, vocals) and Jake Allen (bass, guitar, drums). Since forming in 2010, the three friends have constantly been at work, whether it be booking their own 40-date school tour of Australia, recording acoustic releases endorsed by Joel Madden of Good Charlotte or playing festivals such as SXSW, Sundance Film Festival, Australia Celebrates Live, Vans Warped Tour Australia and Groovin The Moo.
In 2016, Drawing North released their debut album, El Dorado, which was produced by James Wisner (Paramore) and released
through Universal Music. The album peaked at #3 on the iTunes charts and received across-the-day airplay at Nova Brisbane,
Canberra's FM104.7 and Sydney's KIISFM Planet Rock.
Today, Drawing North have played over 200 shows and supported international and homegrown artists such as Paul Kelly, Jessica Mauboy and Sheppard. Clark Planetarium and PYGmalion Productions Bring Art and Science Together
See “Silent Sky” with PYGmalion Productions followed up with a Science Talkback on May 4th
Salt Lake City, UT – Clark Planetarium and PYGmalion Productions have teamed up to bring art and science together for a special presentation and discussion of PYGmalion Productions’ “Silent Sky” on Thursday, May 4th, 2017 at 7:30pm in the Leona Wagner Black Box at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
“Silent Sky,” written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Mark Fossen, is the true story of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, played out against a landscape of fierce sisterly love, early feminism, universe-revealing science, and a time when modern astronomy relied on so-called women “computers” to exceed expectations and further the science in the field. This performance of “Silent Sky” features actors Brenda Hattigh, Hanna Minshew, Elizabeth Golden, Michael Scott Johnson, and Teresa Sanderson.
Clark Planetarium staff and friends will be on site at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center prior to the performance and will lead a science-based talkback session with the audience following the performance. “Performance art helps to tell true stories, especially those of scientific heroes, in relatable ways,” said Amy Oliver, Clark Planetarium Marketing and Public Relations, and NASA Solar System Ambassador to Utah. “Telling the story of Henrietta Leavitt is important because it highlights the importance of women in space science, as well as the major contributions scientists of all backgrounds have made to the field.”

The Center joins diverse schools of choice in White House recognition ceremony
(WASHINGTON, D.C.)—Jeanne Allen, founder and CEO of the Center for Education Reform today joined students and leaders from six Washington, DC schools of choice, and leaders from organizations and faiths supporting expanded opportunities for educational excellence in a White House celebration of educational choice in the District of Columbia, hosted by Vice President Mike Pence.
“It was great to be part of the celebration and hear the Vice President of the United States salute the SOAR Act, which is a lifeline for so many students, and make an unequivocal plea to provide every child no matter what their status in life with the opportunity to excel in a school that best meets their needs and their parents vision for education,” Allen said.
CER, established in Washington in 1993, played a leading role in the evolution of the three-sector strategy that helped DC residents gain expanded access to charter schools, private schools and traditional public schools willing to improve. “It was an unprecedented alliance,” Allen recalled, “It included Democrats from the city, such as then Mayor Tony Williams and City Councilman Kevin Chavous, Republicans in federal leadership, parents and a number of organizations who were willing to put in place a unique approach to education in the Nation’s Capital.”
“It was that program that spurred an economic renaissance in the city,” Allen recalled. “Supported by leaders in both parties then and now, from Senators Joe Lieberman, Cory Booker and Diane Feinstein, to Congressmen John Boehner, Daniel Lipinski and Paul Ryan, the program has provided thousands once relegated to failing schools with promise and hope.”
“Now that the program has been reauthorized in Congress for another 3 years, it’s time to ensure that all students – here and across the country –can tap into opportunity,” Allen said.
“It’s great to have allies in Washington who can help get that done,” she concluded.
