Secretary Perdue Statement on Ibach & Northey Senate Committee Hearing

(Washington, D.C., October 5, 2017) - U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today commended Greg Ibach and Bill Northey, two nominees for key posts at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), for their joint appearance before the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.  President Donald J. Trump nominated Ibach to serve as Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP) and selected Northey for Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC).  The two await committee action and approval of the entire U.S. Senate.

The Under Secretary for MRP oversees three critical USDA agencies: the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service; the Agricultural Marketing Service; and the Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration.  The Under Secretary for FPAC oversees three critical USDA agencies: the Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Risk Management Agency.

Perdue issued the following statement:

“These two nominees will bring experience and integrity to USDA the moment they walk in the door.  Greg Ibach’s work as Nebraska’s Director of Agriculture has prepared him to address the needs of American agriculture, particularly regarding the cattle industry.  Bill Northey, the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, will give us a fourth generation corn and soybean farmer who knows the issues facing producers across the nation.  I look forward to their speedy passage through the committee and floor votes, and urge the Senate to act on other nominees awaiting approval as well.”

MINING GROUP LAUDS SEC. ZINKE

ACTIONTO END EPIC LAND GRAB

AEMA Supports Interior Action to End Sage-grouse Withdrawals and Land Use Plans

The American Exploration & Mining Association (AEMA) announced its support as the Interior Department publishes a formal end to its planned mining ban covering 10 million acres in Western states and the Notice of Intent to amend 98 Sage-grouse habitat management plans across 10 states. Those plans, completed in 2015, constituted one of the largest public land-use restrictions in United States history.

“Secretary Zinke has done the right thing by ending this epic federal land grab.” said Laura Skaer, AEMA Executive Director. “These land-use restrictions and withdrawals were a blatant overreach by the BLM and a thinly veiled attempt to impose a top-down policy, completely disregarding states efforts, statutory requirements and public involvement."

Skaer added, “Now, thanks to President Trump and Secretary Zinke, the Governors are back in the driver’s seat when it comes to the proper management of public lands in their states. We urge all governors to take full advantage of this opportunity and step up to make the necessary changes to these flawed plans.”

The restrictions and withdrawals were set to have a devastating economic impact on the economies of western states and the ability of our Nation to produce the strategic and critical minerals required for national defense and economic prosperity.

Local Insulation Installer Competes for the Title of

‘America’s Best Insulation Installer’

Pleasant View-based insulation installer, Mario A Paz-Padilla of J&K Insulation, participates in 15th annual competition for $10,000 prize

DENVER – Oct. 5, 2017 – Local Pleasant View resident, Mario A Paz-Padilla of J&K Insulation will compete this month in the 15th annual America’s Best Installer competition at the EXDO Event Center in Denver. From Oct. 12-14, he will challenge 35 insulation installers from across the country in a skill-based competition for the $10,000 grand prize.

America’s Best Installer was created in 2003 by building products manufacturer Johns Manville and Insulate America to recognize the skill and hard work of insulation installers, while emphasizing the impact a quality insulation installation has on the energy efficiency of a building structure.

“Each year we look forward to recognizing the industry’s best professionals while also highlighting the importance of a quality install,” said Bob Wamboldt, president of Insulation Systems at Johns Manville. “For the last 15 years, Johns Manville has been a proud supporter of the competition and the skilled installers working each day to provide customers with more comfortable and energy efficient homes.”

The three-day competition requires competitors to install JM formaldehyde-free insulation batts into a mock home structure. Expert judges evaluate each competitor’s performance based on real job site criteria, including workmanship and install quality, speed, material use, and reaction to different obstacles, such as pipes, vaulted ceilings and electrical outlets.

The winner will receive the grand prize of $10,000 and the coveted title of America’s Best Insulation Installer. Second-, third- and fourth-place winners will be awarded cash prizes of $5,000, $3,500 and $2,500 respectively.  America’s Best Insulation Installer and the runners-up will be announced during an awards ceremony at EXDO on Oct. 14.
