Bring a part of the world to you

World Heritage Student Exchange Programs is now looking for American families to host high school students from European, Asian, former Soviet Union, Middle Eastern, and African countries.

These personable and academically select exchange students speak English, are bright, curious, and eager to learn about this country through living as part of a family for an academic year and attending high school. Your support of these students reinforces the United States’ commitment to education and opportunity throughout the world.

World Heritage is currently seeking host families for these well-qualified, bright, motivated and well-screened students. By living with local host families and attending local high schools, the students acquire an understanding of American values and build on leadership skills.

The exchange students arrive from their home country shortly before school begins and return at the end of the school year. Each World Heritage student is fully insured, brings his or her own personal spending money and expects to bear his or her share of household responsibilities, as well as being included in normal family activities and lifestyles. At the same time the student will be teaching their newly adopted host family about their own culture and language.

$3K reward added for Utah cougar killed, beheaded

Humane Society of Utah adds to reward for the arrest in cougar poaching case

The Humane Society of Utah (HSU) announced that it is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for killing a cougar near the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in Davis County, Utah late April or early May. The HSU hopes the reward assists the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) in obtaining information required to identify and charge the person responsible for the illegal poaching and beheading of this cougar.

“The death of this cougar should have been reported to the DWR if it was killed in self-defense,” said Gene Baierschmidt, HSU executive director. “The fact that the body was left but the head was removed leads us to believe it was killed illegally and needlessly, and therefore, the person responsible needs to be held accountable.”

DWR officer, Krystal Tucker said a bullet was found lodged in one of the animal’s limbs, and the head was cut off with a sharp instrument. The head was not found at the scene.

It is not believed that the cougar was shot by any lawful hunter with a permit for the area.

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail is a popular hiking and biking trail which increases the chance that someone saw or heard something suspicious in the area.

There are no leads in the case at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact the UTiP hotline at 1-800-662-3337 or send an email to turninapoacher@utah.gov. Tips may remain anonymous.

Navican Raises $15 Million Series A Financing to Commercialize TheraMap and Expand Precision Cancer Care Offering

Financing led by Intermountain Healthcare

Innovation is a top priority at Intermountain.”

— Marc Harrison, MD, CEO and president of Intermountain Healthcare.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, June 2, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Navican Genomics, Inc., a Precision Cancer Care company that offers a comprehensive cancer services for oncologists and patients, announced that the company has closed $15 million Series A financing led by Intermountain Healthcare. Navican will use the financing to accelerate commercialization and expansion of the company’s Precision Cancer Care offering, including their TheraMap solution, which harnesses the power of precision genomics, clinical analytics, and patient services for optimal cancer management.

Navican, an Intermountain Healthcare company, provides testing and treatment options for the greatest number of actionable gene mutations, and offers the most advanced next-generation sequencing available. Currently, only a small percentage of people who have cancer are benefiting from the promise of precision medicine and targeted therapies. With Series A funding, Navican will commercialize TheraMap to make precision medicine available to everyone with cancer.

According to Ingo Chakravarty, chief executive officer and president of Navican, current precision medicine solutions fall short of delivering the best care individualized to each person. “While precision medicine has great potential to positively impact cancer patients, its use is currently fragmented, at best. TheraMap will provide community based patients with access to the best possible care, which means precision care for all cancer patients, not just a few,” said Chakravarty. “We are privileged to be supported by, and partner with, Intermountain Healthcare as we commercialize TheraMap and to expand our Precision Cancer Care offering.”

Intermountain Healthcare is a not-for-profit organization that takes an expansive, innovative, and holistic approach to understanding what people want and need to live the healthiest lives possible. This lofty aspiration requires Intermountain to anticipate and understand the evolving market place, and be at the forefront of innovations that improve health and care. Intermountain created the Intermountain Innovations division in 2013 to advance industry collaboration and commercialize intellectual property that has demonstrably proven to improve healthcare and satisfy expectations of managing costs.

“Innovation is a top priority at Intermountain Healthcare,” says Marc Harrison, MD, chief executive officer and president of Intermountain Healthcare. “As we develop incredible advancements that will improve healthcare outcomes, we are excited to partner with companies such as Navican to serve patients and communities around the world.”

SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM DUE OUT ON 7/13

RELEASE SHOW AT THE BARBARY IN PHILADELPHIA

"These guys are stronger than ever and ready to kick some serious ass with their blazing rock and roll." -Glide Magazine

JUNE 2, 2017 - PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Dull Blue Lights are premiering their new single, "A Deeper Blue", exclusively today with Glide Magazine. Listen HERE. "Straight out of the gate the song is an energetic romp exploding with garage rock riffs and boogie woogie piano", Glide Magazine notes. "Even though the song title seems to contradict the band's new name, it definitely announces to the world that these guys are stronger than ever and ready to kick some serious ass with their blazing rock and roll." Featuring production by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Benjamin Booker, Clear Plastic Masks), "A Deeper Blue" is the latest single from The Dull Blue Lights' forthcoming self-titled debut album, due out on July 13th. To celebrate the release, the band will be playing a hometown show that night at the Barbary in Philadelphia. For more information, please visit: https://www.thedullbluelights.com/.

The Dull Blue Lights are a band in between. Drawing from influences as varied as Motown soul, Nuggets psychedelia, and Jamaican rocksteady, the Philadelphia-based group's definitive blend of cascading harmonies, screaming guitars and relentlessly grooving rhythms lives somewhere between each one. The band calls this in-between sound Basement Soul.

"We acknowledge that genre exists, but have no interest in confining ourselves to being just a soul band, or a mod band, or a reggae band, and on and on," lead vocalist/guitarist, Todd Fausnacht, explains. For the band, any type of music they enjoy can become part of the Dull Blue Lights Sound. "For us personally, coming from a scene full of vintage throwback bands, it's a refreshing change."

Formerly known as The Snails, The Dull Blue Lights transformed immensely during the writing of their debut album. "When we started writing this record, we were one band, but by the time we finished recording, we were a different band entirely," Fausnacht elaborates. "We unintentionally told a story of transformation and metamorphosis, which ultimately ended with us becoming The Dull Blue Lights."

Featuring all-analog recording, The Dull Blue Lights was tracked live in five consecutive 12-hour-long sessions at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN with producer Andrija Tokic. With songs nodding to rockabilly, soul, reggae, garage and more, The Dull Blue Lights is an album with a little bit of everything. As drummer, Josh Parry, puts it, "This album is a cathartic journey of a band searching for itself, and discovering that it is everything all at once. We had our fun making it, and we couldn't be more excited to see everyone else have their fun listening to it."

The Dull Blue Lights are Todd Fausnacht (lead vocals/lead guitars), Ben Parry (bass/vocals), Tim Hildebrand (guitar/vocals), Matt MacLeod (organ/vocals) and Josh Parry (drums/vocals).
