Stories of Healing Highlighted in Intermountain Healthcare’s Annual Report

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, June 5, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The new Annual Report to the Community from Intermountain Healthcare has been released. The report is a comprehensive review of the clinical advances, research, contributions to the community, and state of Intermountain over the past year.

The Annual Report highlights the extraordinary work of caregivers at Intermountain and features stories of the care provided to patients. Stories include:

The Gardner family – Two years ago, Ashley and Tyson Gardner found out they were going to have quadruplets. Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital helped the family through the unique delivery and the NICU care. The family has been documenting their journey and were featured on the Ellen show.

Camille Gunnell – This college student is one of 28 participants to volunteer for the Tech for Type 1 study – which uses fitness trackers, apps, and a glucose monitor. The study has taught her how to manage her diabetes and enjoy her active lifestyle.

Chuck Dobry – Chuck was vacationing in Zion National Park when he had a potentially fatal stroke. With critical time running out, caregivers at Intermountain Dixie Regional Medical Center assisted with a minimally invasive surgical technique – using telehealth technology from a separate location from Chuck.

Linda Green – Linda needed another option to keep her kidney while also removing a cancerous tumor. The Intermountain Urology Institute and the Intermountain Transformation Lab teamed up to create a 3D printed model of her kidney and tumor. The model enabled surgeons to successfully remove the tumor and save her kidney.

Alex Homer – Alex was born with only half a heart and spent his young years receiving multiple heart surgeries, enduring strokes and a liver surgery. Finally at age 8, he received a heart transplant at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital. His journey toward an active, kid-friendly life has been an inspiration for many.

There are more patient stories on healing highlighted in the report, as well as clinical research, community benefits, a recap of notable Intermountain events and financial information. To view the interactive Annual Report and see a video gallery of patient stories and caregiver experiences, visit Intermountain Healthcare’s Annual Report site.

Intermountain Healthcare is a Utah-based not-for-profit system of 22 hospitals, 180 clinics, a Medical Group with about 1,500 employed physicians and advanced practitioners, a health plans group called SelectHealth, and other medical services. Ponca City,

Okla.—May 30, 2017—The Cabela’s North American Bass Circuit’s 2017 tour of the Upper Midwest’s hottest bass fisheries continues Saturday, June 17, with a regular season qualifier presented by Garmin on Minnesota’s renowned Lake Vermilion, from the Fortune Bay Resort Casino.

The single-day event offers two-person teams a chance to win thousands in cash and prizes while enjoying a mix of smallmouths and largemouths on one of the Northwood’s premier bass lakes.

Vermilion’s smallmouth population is on the rise and will likely play a major role in the tournament’s final standings. Based on the results of past NABC events, teams will need to break the 20-pound mark to have a shot at victory. In 2015, Mark and Shane Reveling won with five smallies for 20 pounds, 7 ounces. And in 2014, which was a two-day contest, Andrew and Michael Nitchals topped the leaderboard with 10 fish for 40 pounds, 9 ounces.

The upcoming tournament is open to all two-person teams regardless of club or sponsor affiliation. Teams will be allowed to bring their best five large- or smallmouth bass to the scale, and the team with the heaviest total will be crowned the champions. Bass fans of all ages are invited to watch the action unfold at the weigh-in, beginning at 3 p.m. at Fortune Bay Resort Casino.

Besides great bass fishing and the thrill of competing in a professionally run setting, teams will battle for serious winnings. Cabela’s NABC payouts are based on the number of teams entered in each event. Plus, the NABC Big Bass Pot and sponsor bonuses including Ranger Cup, Stratos 2X and Garmin Grand Giveaway add thousands more to the total.

Teams competing in multiple events can reap even greater rewards. Those fishing at least three Cabela’s NABC tournaments have a shot at qualifying for the 2017 Tournament of Champions. Team of the Year titles will also be awarded to the top three teams, led by a Team of the Year prize package that includes paid entry fees to four 2018 qualifiers and the 2017 championship, plus $1,000 in Cabela’s gift cards and handsome trophies.

The 2017 Cabela’s NABC season includes four regular season qualifiers in Minnesota and Wisconsin, on a selection of largemouth and smallmouth bass fisheries anglers have called the circuit’s best lineup ever and a “dream season” for the region’s bass fans.

The action kicked off in May with a smallmouth blitz on Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Remaining events include Lake Vermilion, Minnesota, June 17; Bays de Noc, Michigan, July 29; and Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota, August 19. A special NABC Open and the Tournament of Champions are set for September 9-10 on the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter for hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is in its seventh season as title sponsor of the NABC. Other sponsors include: Ranger Boats, Stratos Boats, Mercury Marine, Garmin and G-Juice.

Based in Ponca City, Oklahoma, the Cabela’s NABC is open to two-person teams regardless of club or sponsor affiliation. Entry fees are $400 per regular season tournament and for the NABC Open. Registration for the Lake Vermilion tournament closes at 4 p.m. (CST) Monday, June 12th.

Along with an overall payback to anglers well in excess of 100 percent, a small donation is included in each entry fee and matched by the NABC and other conservation organizations up to 3-to-1 in support of bass conservation projects anywhere the NABC does business.

Utah’s Employers Council releases two important regional and statewide job compensation surveys

The 2017 Utah Benchmark Compensation Survey and the IT Compensation

Survey help businesses in hiring and keeping top talent

Salt Lake City, June 5, 2017 – Utah’s Employers Council recently published two job compensation surveys, designed to help Utah organizations keep current and competitive with employee salaries. The 2017 Utah Benchmark Compensation Survey and the new Information Technology Compensation Survey provide a snapshot of state and regional salary policies, including base salaries, average percent pay increases and hiring rates.

The Utah Benchmark Compensation Survey provides salary benchmarks for everyone from welders to writers, and from clerks to CEOs. The Benchmark Survey data showed that the average salary increase for all Utah regions and organizations surveyed, did not jump significantly, going from three percent in 2016 to 3.2 percent in 2017. The average hiring wage for full-time, inexperienced entry-level personnel was $13.81.

The Information Technology Compensation Survey takes a deeper dive into the technology industry in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona. Tech company owners will want to note that average pay increase percentages projected for technology departments in 2017 ranged from 1.5 percent in Wyoming, to three percent in Utah and to 3.1 percent in Northern Colorado. The technology companies surveyed reported the average signing bonus for IT management positions was $958. The IT bonuses ranged from $796 for companies with less than five IT employees, to $1,635 for companies with 51 or more IT employees.

It was also interesting to see that the percentage of IT companies that outsourced IT positions jumped from 25 percent in 2016 to 60 percent in 2017.

“The Employers Council’s goal is to give employers and HR managers the tools they need to entice and retain employees,” said Ryan Nelson, president of Employers Council of Utah. “The two surveys provide employers with perspective on salaries for positions within their industries and help them make educated decisions when creating compensation packages or considering pay increases within their companies.

“Today’s job market is competitive, and organizations must not only craft attractive salary packages, they must also create positive employment conditions to attract the best talent,” added Nelson. “Our survey data, employer training and employment law services, are all important arrows that employers need in their quivers, to become employers of choice.”

More than 153 Utah organizations participated in the 2017 Benchmark Compensation Survey, with 26,524 Utah employees reporting. Four hundred and sixty-three organizations in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona participated in the IT Compensation Survey, with 9,312 employees reporting.

Employers Council is an employer association that serves as a resource for business owners and operators in the region, providing expertise in employment law, HR, training and survey data. Membership provides access to the Employers Council team of attorneys and certified HR consultants. Due to the quality and breadth of the data, the full versions of the surveys are available exclusively to members of MSEC or for purchase. For more information on becoming a member or purchasing the HR Metrics Survey, visit www.msec.org or call 801-364-8479.

Utah’s Wildlife Director to Help Lead U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Director Sheehan will bring a successful track record to Washington, D.C.

Salt Lake City (June 5, 2017) – Greg Sheehan, director of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR), has provided exemplary leadership on wildlife issues in Utah and will soon serve as the new deputy director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Based on Sheehan’s successful track record and commitment to conservation, we’re confident the nation’s wildlife is in good hands.

Sheehan is passionate about wildlife and working with the public on wildlife issues. He has built coalitions of regional and national peers, conservation organizations, local stakeholders and other partners to deliver groundbreaking results. He is an avid hunter, fisherman and wildlife photographer who has served as DWR’s director since 2012.

“Greg is leaving Utah’s wildlife in outstanding shape — even better than when he started,” said Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Executive Director Mike Styler. “I’ve been so impressed with the way he builds partnerships and public support to benefit wildlife."

Sheehan earned his undergraduate degree at Utah State University and later received an MBA. His passion for wildlife — and his years of wildlife agency leadership — have given him a deep understanding of the issues and complexities involved in wildlife management.

Over the course of his 25-year career in natural resources, Sheehan has played a pivotal role in many remarkable accomplishments:

●       Restoring many of Utah’s fish and wildlife species to levels not seen in more than 125 years

●       Increasing Utah's mule deer population by more than 100,000 animals within the past four years

●       Improving and restoring more than 1.3 million acres of wildlife habitat as part of Utah’s Watershed Restoration Initiative

●       Working to conserve greater sage grouse, so a listing under the Endangered Species Act was unnecessary

●       Launching a new migration initiative that uses cutting-edge technology to better understand and manage wildlife populations

●       Creating the Utah Cutthroat Slam, a program to generate conservation funding for Utah’s four native trout species

●       Cultivating the public’s passion for wildlife and conservation through expanded youth hunting and fishing days, annual pheasant releases and other hands-on wildlife events

●       Serving in leadership positions in multiple national wildlife organizations

“As he heads to Washington, D.C., Greg’s experience and enthusiasm will serve him well. He is a trusted public servant and has been a lifelong advocate for wildlife conservation,” Styler said. “He has resolved complex wildlife issues by helping diverse interests find common ground. He is a true leader and his work ethic and dedication to wildlife are an example for his peers nationwide.”

"It has been an honor to serve as Utah's wildlife director and to work with such dedicated, hard-working professionals,” Sheehan said. “We've made great strides in wildlife research and management that will have far-reaching benefits for many species and the people who care about them."

Although we are sad to see him leave, we look forward to working with Sheehan in his new position and are excited to see others recognize his extraordinary qualifications. We wish him well and look forward to seeing his consensus-building, common-sense solutions applied to national wildlife issues.

DWR Deputy Director Mike Fowlks will serve as interim director until a permanent hiring decision is made.

Many people made the assumption that because we have a Republican president in office, and a Republican majority in Congress that enacting sound conservative policy would be smooth sailing.

But as the Trump administration has come to realize, it's an uphill climb to get their campaign promises enacted, and they need help -- both in Washington and at the grassroots level -- to get the conservative policies of their agenda realized.

  • Enact sweeping regulatory and tax reforms to create new jobs and opportunities for small businesses to expand,
  • Doing what's necessary to secure our borders and deport illegal criminal aliens,
  • Pass a conservative budget through Congress and cut wasteful spending.
