September 5th Houston, TX House of Blues Show Is On As Planned!

San Diego, CA - September 1, 2017 - San Diego, CA - September 1, 2017 - After the devastating storm that struck Texas, SWITCHFOOT

and LIFEHOUSE wanted to do something together to give back and wrote a brand new song titled, "Shine Like Gold," which exclusively premiered on People.com. All proceeds from "Shine Like Gold" will be donated to aid Houston's recovery in partnership with Food for the Hungry. SWITCHFOOT and LIFEHOUSE are currently touring with each other for the first time ever on the "Looking For Summer" Tour.  The bands will collectively be performing the song together at the September 5th House of Blues show in Houston, Texas.

On the new song and upcoming Houston show, Jon Foreman shares: "Jason and I had always talked about writing a song together. When it finally happened, 'Shine Like Gold' became a song about everyday heroes fighting their way through the darkness toward the light. On the day we recorded the song, Hurricane Harvey began wreaking havoc in Texas. Sometimes you don't know what a song is for until after its written. In this case it became crystal clear. As we watched our friends and family in Texas struggle through the aftermath of the hurricane, we knew exactly what we had to do.  We LOVE Houston.  Houston is resilient and will rebuild.  We're honored to be in Houston next Tuesday to bring hope and healing the best way we know how."

On "Shine Like Gold" and the upcoming Houston show, LIFEHOUSE's Jason Wade said: "We can't imagine what everyone is going through right now in Houston, but they've all been in our thoughts and prayers. We look forward to playing this show, standing alongside this amazing city and doing everything in our power to help. Jon and I started writing "Shine Like Gold" at the beginning of this tour, but it wasn't until we recorded it in Nashville that we really knew what it was about. Seeing all of these amazing individuals who've sacrifice for their neighbors, and stepped up in the face of extreme hardship has been so inspiring. This song is for them. All of the proceeds from this song are going to Houston for the unsung heroes that do the right thing when no one is watching. All the love."

Formed in San Diego in 1996, SWITCHFOOT is Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Jerome Fontamillas (keyboard, guitar), Drew Shirley (guitar), and Chad Butler (drums). Since their start, the band has sold over 5.7 million copies worldwide of their first nine studio albums (including their 2003 double-platinum breakthrough The Beautiful Letdown and 2009's Grammy Award-winning Hello Hurricane), racked up a string of Alternative radio hit singles, and performed sold-out world tours with over 4 million concert tickets worldwide.

SWITCHFOOT released their latest album, Where The Light Shines Through, on July 8th, 2016 via Vanguard Records.  Where The Light Shines Through is the band's tenth album and the first since 2014's highly acclaimed Fading West. The album was self-produced in collaboration with John Fields, who helmed the multi-platinum breakthrough The Beautiful Letdown.

Beyond their career achievements, SWITCHFOOT has also been active in a variety of philanthropic efforts, raising over a million dollars to aid kids in their community through the band's own Bro-Am Foundation, a long-running annual benefit surf contest and concert that's held every summer in Encinitas, CA. $1 of every ticket sale will be donated to SWITCHFOOT's BRO-AM Foundation providing services to underprivileged and disadvantaged youth. They've also maintained a deep commitment to a variety of humanitarian causes, lending their support to such worthy organizations as CURE International, DATA, the ONE Campaign, Habitat for Humanity, Invisible Children, and To Write Love on Her Arms.

Multi-platinum award-winning rock band LIFEHOUSE recently released their first hits compilation, LIFEHOUSE: Greatest Hits, on CD and all digital retailers. The 18-track selection will include a multitude of their chart-topping hits, including "You and Me," "First Time", "Halfway Gone," "Hurricane" and "Hanging by a Moment," which was the most played radio track of 2001. To mark the release, LIFEHOUSE, which includes Jason Wade (lead vocals, guitar), Bryce Soderberg (bass, vocals) and Ricky Woolstenhulme Jr. (drums, percussion), are co-headlining a U.S. tour with SWITCHFOOT, which will wrap September 10 at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco after a show on September 9 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles (tour dates below). LIFEHOUSE was formed in Los Angeles by singer/songwriter/guitarist Jason Wade, bassist Bryce Soderberg and drummer Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. as Blyss in 1999, attracting the attention of producer Jude Cole. LIFEHOUSE's music has always been radio-friendly, but the band's success is as much for lead singer/guitarist Jason Wade's "sonorous" vocals and spiritual songwriting as it is for the band's well-honed cohesion as performers. Since 2000, LIFEHOUSE have released seven albums that have cumulatively sold 15 million around the world.

Selflessness Continues to Prevail Amidst Hurricane Harvey

Nurses, corporations, Americans band together in fundraising, donations, and rescue efforts

LEHI, UTAH, UNITED STATES, September 1, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As America’s southern coast endures one of the most devastating storms in its history, trained professionals, courageous volunteers, and concerned citizens across the nation are doing anything they can to help. Allie Pillow of Nashville, mother of two and registered nurse, is one of hundreds of medical personnel volunteering their skills to tend to survivors of Hurricane Harvey in the most inaccessible parts of Texas. They are air-lifted in with military Black Hawks, and most volunteers prepare to stay for at least two weeks, working 18-hour days.

Allie, who is also a Younique Presenter, has kept her team of independent beauty consultants informed via Facebook Live. Though some videos are harder to watch than others, she continues to work hard toward her own goals of changing women’s lives through her makeup business, appropriately calling herself the Confidence Consultant.

Younique was so inspired by these efforts and the efforts of several other Younique Presenters, like Bri Richardson and Whitney Husband who are gathering and transporting hundreds of donations to relieve survivors, and Heidi Boss who is opening up her Missouri home to anyone who needs a place to stay, that the company is donating $20,000 to Direct Relief, and activating its nearly 850,000 global Presenters to assist in donating to one of four worthy organizations via PayPal Giving Fund at http://yq.link/harveyrelief.

Secretary Perdue Administers Oath to Tony Tooke as New Forest Service Chief

Sec. Perdue swears in new U.S. Forest Service Chief Tony Tooke in a ceremony Friday at the Pemigewasset Overlook in the White Mountain National Forest near Albany, New Hampshire.

(Albany, NH, September 1, 2017) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today administered the oath of office to Tony Tooke, who became the 18th Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, in a ceremony at White Mountain National Forest. Tooke has worked for the Forest Service since age 18 – with 37 total years of service – and until today was the Regional Forester for the Southern Region.

“Tony Tooke is truly a home-grown Chief, having worked his entire adult life for the Forest Service, and he comes on board at a time of great opportunity to reform our approach to forest management,” Perdue said. “He will oversee efforts to get our forests working again, to make them more productive, and to create more jobs. Additionally, wildfires have been aggressive this season, and it is frustrating to see that a greater and greater percentage – now 55 percent – of our Forest Service budget is spent on fire suppression. This diminishes our efforts to mitigate disasters in advance. I am committed to finding a permanent solution to this budget imbalance, and Tony’s leadership will be key to accomplishing that goal.”

“I am deeply humbled to have been asked to serve as Chief of the U. S. Forest Service,” said Chief Tooke. “I have tremendous respect for our history and those who have served before me – their leadership has inspired my own. I admire our on-the-ground work and our dedicated workforce, at every level of the agency, that make it possible. Together with our many partners, volunteers, and local and state leaders, we have much to accomplish to fulfill our continuing conservation mission and serve people and communities everywhere.”

Tony Tooke Biography:

Tony Tooke has worked for the Forest Service since he was 18 years old, including many assignments in Region 8 and the Washington Office (WO), most recently as the Regional Forester for the Southern Region of the U.S. Forest Service. In that role, he was responsible for 3,100 employees, 14 national forests, and two managed areas, which encompass more than 13.3 million acres in 13 states and Puerto Rico. In his new role as Forest Service Chief, he takes over an agency that oversees 154 national forests and 20 grasslands in 43 states and Puerto Rico.

His previous position in Washington, DC was Associate Deputy Chief for the National Forest System; with oversight of Lands and Realty, Minerals and Geology, Ecosystem Management Coordination, Wilderness and Wild and Scenic Rivers, the National Partnership Office, and Business Administration and Support Services.

As Associate Deputy Chief, Tooke was the Forest Service Executive Lead for Environmental Justice; Farm Bill implementation; and implementation of the Inventory, Monitoring, and Assessment Improvement Strategy. Another priority included implementation of a new planning rule for the National Forest System.

Also in the WO, Tooke served as Director for Ecosystem Management Coordination, Deputy Director for Economic Recovery, and Assistant Director for Forest Management.

Prior to 2006, Tooke served as Deputy Forest Supervisor for the National Forests in Florida as well as District Ranger assignments at the Talladega NF in Alabama, the Oconee NF in Georgia, and the DeSoto NF in Mississippi. His other field assignments were Timber Management Assistant, Other Resource Assistant, Silviculturist, and Forester on six Ranger Districts in Mississippi and Kentucky.

Tooke grew up on a small 200-acre farm in Detroit, Alabama. He earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Mississippi State University. He was in the Forest Service’s inaugural class of the Senior Leadership Program, and he has completed the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.

Perdue Applauds President Trump’s Selections for Key USDA Posts

(Washington, D.C., September 1, 2017) - U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today applauded President Donald J. Trump’s selection of three individuals for key positions within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The president announced Gregory Ibach as Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP), Bill Northey as Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC), and Stephen Vaden as USDA’s General Counsel.

The Under Secretary for MRP oversees three critical USDA agencies: the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service; the Agricultural Marketing Service; and the Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration.  The Under Secretary for FPAC oversees three critical USDA agencies: the Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Risk Management Agency.

“I look forward to the confirmations of Greg Ibach, Bill Northey, and Stephen Vaden, and urge the Senate to take up their nominations as quickly as possible,” Perdue said.  “This is especially important given the challenges USDA will face in helping Texans and Louisianans recover from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.”

Regarding the individual selections, Perdue issued the following statements:

On Greg Ibach:

“Greg Ibach will bring the experience and vision necessary to serve as a first rate Under Secretary for MRP at USDA.  His exemplary tenure as Nebraska’s Director of Agriculture places him squarely in tune with the needs of American agriculture, particularly the cattle industry.  His proven track record of leadership will make him a great asset to USDA’s customers, the hard working, taxpaying people of U.S. agriculture.”

On Bill Northey:

“Bill Northey will continue his honorable record of public service in leading FPAC.  Having served the people of Iowa for the last ten years as their Secretary of Agriculture, and as a fourth generation corn and soybean farmer, Bill has a unique understanding of issues facing farmers across the nation.  He will be an invaluable member of the team.”

On Stephen Vaden:

“Stephen Vaden has a keen legal mind, as we have already experienced through his work since he joined USDA as part of the beachhead team on day one.  He has a firm grasp of the legal issues facing American agriculture, and very importantly, understands the breadth and complexity of the regulatory burdens placed on our producers.  Our farmers, ranchers, foresters, and producers will be well served by his counsel.”
