Sales Tax Coming Entirely Off of Food? Maybe!

Last week in a Legislative Revenue and Tax Interim Committee meeting, an agenda item was kind of jiggered to RAISE the sales tax on food. But the sentiment of the committee changed and now momentum (if I am reading it right) is not to raise or even keep status quo (3% sales tax on food) but to REMOVE all the sales tax on food! I have a bill to do just that. Read more

The World's Smallest “Better Than GPS” Inertial Navigation System Now Available

The world's smallest GPS aided inertial navigation system

Inertial Sense navigation module compared with US Dime.

Drones, robotic, and payload devices now enhanced by this low cost, small footprint, highly accurate, multi-sensor system

We’re excited to deliver a technological breakthrough—in size, weight, power consumption, and cost.”

— Walt Johnson, CEO and founder of Inertial Sense

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES, September 5, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Inertial Sense announced today the availability of its low-cost, very small footprint, highly accurate inertial navigation system: the μINS (“micro-INS”). The platform’s patent-pending design delivers the smallest and lowest-cost commercial solution available.

“We’re excited to deliver a technological breakthrough—in size, weight, power consumption, and cost. Historically, quality GPS-aided inertial navigation has been cost prohibitive and too large for many applications,” said Walt Johnson, CEO and founder of Inertial Sense. “As such, ‘better than GPS’ solutions have been designed into only a few systems. Now, as industries such as the commercial and consumer drone industry have grown into high volume markets, the demand for a solution like ours—an accurate, low-cost navigation system—has really grown.”

The μINS is the world’s smallest sensor module of its kind—approximately the size of 3 stacked US dimes. It provides high-quality direction, position, and velocity data for multiple applications by intelligently fusing sensor data from GPS (GNSS), gyros, accelerometers, magnetometers, and a barometric pressure sensor. Additionally, this solution offers:

• Robust noise rejection for unparalled accuracy

• Simplified integration and accelerating time-to-market for our customers with a factory-calibrated system

• A better end-user experience with cutting-edge navigational and 3D motion tracking benefits

Inertial Sense will also be displaying the μINS at the company’s InterDrone Booth (#807) (September 6-8, 2017 in Las Vegas). More details are available at inertialsense.com.

About Inertial Sense

Thank you, Marie!

Marie Akerman, our Donor Services Manager, is heading to the University of Chicago this fall to pursue a Master's degree in social science. We asked her to reflect on what she's learned during her time at the CFU.

"Before the CFU I worked at a tiny nonprofit in Chicago. I loved the organization mission, but I wanted to learn more about philanthropy and the nonprofit sector at large.

In my time at the CFU I've really enjoyed working with our donors and grantees, and have learned a lot about Utah's philanthropic and nonprofit communities. Being on the grantmaking side, I've gained a better understanding of the importance of collaboration, measurement, and effective management in the nonprofit sector and how donors can look to these qualities to gauge an organization's success. I think these principles will guide my work going forward as well."

Investing in Success

Through our wonderful partnership with our sponsor American Express, five Executive Directors from rural Utah nonprofits participated in Invest in Success, the Foundation's four day leadership & organizational transformation program. This year's participants included:

Fifth Ocean Consulting, along with a number of talented presenters from the nonprofit & private sector, worked with the participants on critical topics, including leading organizational change, implementing a governance board, branding, and coalition building. In addition, American Express provided financial professionals that worked with each participant on its organization's financial challenges. We wrapped up the week by visiting the East African Refugee Goat Project (a project of the International Rescue Committee), Salt Lake Bicycle Collective, and Spy Hop. Each participant will receive ongoing coaching and can apply for a minigrant to help with project implementation. Congratulations to all of the participants!
