(2017)   MOSAIC Inter-Faith Ministries serves 1 in 25, often diverse, Utahns each year, providing basics to employment. Nearly 7,300 adults receive employment and college readiness services.  Over 1000 dults receive live-able wage and/or college pathway each year, a basics to employment core emphasis and philosophy of moving from short-term outreach to long-term economic stability.  MOSAIC is volunteer driven with nearly three thousand volunteers giving over three thousand five hundred hours of service each year.  For photos of recent volunteer service see banner photos on our website at: LSSU.org

2017 is a year of Joy in Service, as the CEO of MOSAIC Inter-Faith Ministries, Dr. Leslie Whited, celebrates twenty years of ministry with the Agency.  In honor of this anniversary, eleven faith-centered women who serve with amazing leadership in Utah receive Joy in Service awards: Eno Enobong Etuk, LDS & Director of inter-faith Green Waters Health Center, Joan Lorena Frear, with her granddaughters McKenzie, Cassidy and Madison, all Spiritual but not Religious, for her hospitality and reception work daily with refugees and immigrants; Maysa Malas-Kergaye, Muslim Speakers Bureau/Salt Lake Inter-Faith Round Table; Dr. Mia McNulty, CEO, ELCA Lutheran/Nia Imani Heart Association, LA, California; Agnes Nduwimana, for her groundbreaking work beginning the Khurundi-speaking Bhurundi Pentecostal Christian Church in Salt Lake Valley and work with inter-faith Manna Market food distribution; Joohwa Park, Korean Methodist Church (downtown SLC) & VP with inter-faith Board of Trustees; and Wendy Stovall, Unification Church and Secretary/Photographer, Salt Lake Inter-Faith Round Table.  ESL Team Teachers: Marva Bennett, Marian Hunt & Aletha Paskett - all LDS career and retired teachers; Christy & Bob Blodgett, LDS, who assist inter-faith refugees and immigrants in resettlement after their first eighteen months, received the Lt. Governor's Commission on Utah Volunteerism Award for their Joy in Service.  At a recent banquet, Dr. McNulty, spoke to the importance of calling upon the Holy to ‘move obstacles in our way’ as we move with focus and power toward all that is just and filled with love in this world.  ‘We most know our spiritual roots and the stories of our ancestors,’ Dr. McNulty advised,’ as we serve with joy.’  ‘We must not be afraid to redefine ourselves with wisdom and insight when the time is right,’ stated Dr McNulty (1-909-913-0174), ELCA Lutheran, CEO of Nia Imani Heart Association, a well known not-for-profit Agency in Los Angeles, California, speaking to MOSAIC’s name change three years ago from Lutheran Social Service of Utah to the more encompassing MOSAIC Inter-Faith Ministries.  “In my home in Los Angeles, at one time, the MOSAIC meant different countries in Africa, Haiti, the Carribean, and now, just like Salt Lake City, the MOSAIC is changing from welcoming refugees from Liberia to now welcoming refugees from Syria.”

December 5th, 6th, and 7th, 14th, and 21rst, marks the twenty second time, that MOSAIC will greet the community with Holiday Essentials.  On December 4th, each family will receive supplemental toys to programs that MOSAIC has applied to on behalf of families, like Toys for Tots.  Families will receive on bag filled with art/school supplies, a blanket, games, toys, hygiene kit and stuffed animal.    December 6th, Wednesday, Individuals and families, will receive a $50 voucher from Deseret Industries or Crossroads Urban Center.  On December 7th, 14th, and 21rst, individuals and families will receive large Holiday boxes with food and the opportunity to gather warm clothing.  Thumbelina Academy is providing Teddy Bears from their Holiday drive on December 21rst with MOSAIC food boxes.

Volunteers of all ages, wearing warm clothing, are welcome from 8 am to 4 pm each day at MOSAIC which is located near bus and trax lines at 4392 South 900 East in Salt Lake City, Utah (Millcreek neighborhood).  Volunteers will give out holiday goods and food boxes or fill out forms for those in need.  Parking is adjacent to the building.  “Your service, literally means the world!” affirms Dr. Leslie Whited. “Make a meaningful difference this Holiday season.  Have a lingering cup of hot chocolate and a deep conversation with someone who has come to Utah from another country at MOSAIC Inter-Faith Ministries while experiencing the joy of service!”
