CAFE RIO MEXICAN GRILL OPENS THEIR 31ST UTAH LOCATION

IN SANTA CLARA ON DECEMBER 6TH BENEFITING THE

WASHINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 27, 2017, Santa Clara, UT- The 31st Utah based Cafe Rio Mexican Grill will open their doors in Santa Clara on December 6th at 10:30 A.M. The new location at 3540 Pioneer Parkway is not far from where the very first tortilla was rolled in their original location twenty year ago. The Cafe Rio phenomenon, which started in St. George, Utah in 1997, has since built a “super fan” following with incredibly dedicated and loyal customers. Santa Clara marks the company’s 113th location nationally.

Cafe Rio attributes their continued success to the commitment that they made when they opened their very first location, which is to use only the freshest ingredients and make each meal by hand from start to finish every single day. That commitment still stands strong today and continues to be the number one priority for their restaurants, along with making the customer experience the best it can be.

Each Cafe Rio restaurant features a wide-open kitchen where guests can clearly view sauces simmering, team members hand rolling and cooking fresh tortillas all day, hand scooping avocados, chopping onions and tomatoes, grilling meats and squeezing over 1000 fresh limes each day. They adhere to a strict “no freezers and no microwaves” policy in all of their locations. Over the years, the company has won hundreds of awards, including the coveted title “#1 Mexican restaurant in the nation” by the prestigious Sandelman & Associates for eight consecutive years. FastCasual.com recently selected Cafe Rio Mexican Grill as one of the top brands in its annual list of Top 100 Movers and Shakers.

“With our roots based in Utah, and particularly in the St. George area, it is very exciting for us to open our Santa Clara location,” says Todd Smith, Chief Marketing Officer of Cafe Rio Mexican Grill. “Out Utah customers never cease to amaze us with their loyalty and enthusiasm for our freshly made meals. To have their support over the last 20 years is beyond incredible and we are extremely grateful. We welcome everyone in the St. George greater metro area to come join us for our celebration in Santa Clara when we open our doors on December 6th at 10:30 A.M.”

Cafe Rio welcomes the public and the media to join them and St. George Chamber for their grand opening. The restaurant will host their signature “giant burrito” and ribbon cutting.

Sutherland Institute applauds reduction of two monuments, calls for reform of Antiquities Act

SALT LAKE CITY — Sutherland Institute praises President Trump’s bold move to reduce the Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments. The administration should be commended for listening to the voices of San Juan, Kane and Garfield county locals whose lives and livelihoods are connected to the public land they love. When a president of either political party, with the stroke of a pen, can set aside hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of acres, local voices are drowned out by big, and well-funded, outside interests.

Rural Utahns want public land management decisions to be made with them, rather than forced on them. What can be done by executive order can be undone by the same – creating crippling uncertainty for our rural communities. Unless the Antiquities Act is reformed to include the American constitutional principles of checks and balances and separation of powers, Utahns will continually be subject to presidential overreach, political power swings and the whims of centralized government. Our families, our communities and our public lands deserve better.

From Boyd Matheson, Sutherland Institute president:
“The changes brought about by the president’s actions were truly the culmination of countless, and often thankless hours of effort by an army of individuals and groups. The president listened to the combined voices of citizens, tribal members, small communities, and elected officials from the county, state and federal levels. The president’s action today is worth celebrating. The way that this reduction in monument size actually came about is worth emulating. The process of getting to good policy is a team effort and the ultimate credit should go to the Utah model – everyone doing their part.”

From Matthew Anderson, director of Sutherland Institute’s Coalition for Self-Government in the West:
“Without substantive reform to the Antiquities Act, our national monuments will continue to be popular political footballs being punted back and forth with each change in presidential administration. No one wins in such a kicking game – not our public lands, not the antiquities themselves, and certainly not the people who live in the West’s rural communities. It’s time for all sides to draw on their shared love of public lands and come to a permanent solution.”

Utah Chapter & Nine Local Businesses Put on Second- I Support the Girls Utah Bra & Feminine Hygiene Drive

Utah, December 5, 2017- The Utah Chapters of I Support the Girls, a non-profit, is partnering up with nine women owned businesses to put together the second Utah Bra & Feminine Hygiene Drive.  All of the items donated will then be donated to ten women shelters in Utah to help the 6,000+ girls and women who are homeless, refugees, and victims of domestic and sexual violence in need.  The drive goes until December 31st.

“Can you imagine what it would be like to be a homeless woman and not be able to afford basic hygiene necessities, like a bra and tampons?  This can prevent these women from obtaining employment and make it harder to get back on their feet.  Women shouldn't have to decide to either feed themselves or take care of their basic health needs.  Every woman deserves to have dignity, no matter their circumstances,” Northern Utah Director of I Support the Girls and bra fitting expert, Courtney Killpack says.

There's a huge need for bras and feminine hygiene products because they are rarely donated.  Many girls and women in need go without these necessities.  “The purpose of this drive is to help women feel empowered and confident to help these women get out of their tough situations,” Emily Havens, Southern Utah I Support the Girls Director says. “By having these items most of us women take for granted, we can greatly impact and change the lives of so many girls and women in need.”

Last year the Drive donated over 1.3K bras and 30K hygiene products to women shelters in Utah.  “From last year we have grown and are expanding our efforts to reach more parts of Utah to help more girls and women,” Killpack says.

Women can drop off their gently used and clean bras and new feminine hygiene products or underwear to nine designated I Support the Girls donation locations throughout Utah.

The six donation locations are the following:

·         Serendipity Salon- 678 N Main St, Logan

·         Cooper & Violet-  171 E 2500 S, Ogden

·         Lace by Louise- 344 500 W #2, Bountiful

·         Bra Fittings by Court- 478 E 1650 S, Kaysville

·         The Bra Bar Boutique- 1352 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City

·         Boop Baby- 9304 700 E, Sandy

·         The Baby Cubby- 586 N 900 W, American Fork

·         Platinum Salon- 594 E 800 S, Orem

·         Recycled Design- 63 W. Center Street, Cedar City

·         Elizabeth Faye Salon- 350 N Bluff St, St George

-MORE-

In January, all donated items will be given to the following six local women shelters in Utah:

·         Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse in Logan

·         Your Community Connection (YCC) in Ogden

·         Safe Harbor in Kaysville

·         Utah Refugee Center in Salt Lake City

·         YWCA in Salt Lake City

·         Rescue Mission of Salt Lake in Salt Lake City

·         Women's & Children in Crisis Center in Provo

·         Care and Share in Cedar City

·         Switchpoint in St. George

·         Dove Center in St. George

Over the last 2 years, I Support the Girls have collected and distributed 214,000 bras and 719,000 menstrual hygiene products worldwide to 315 vetted shelters and organizations.

Sen. Lee Thanks President Trump for First Step in Protecting Utah’s Rural Communities

SALT LAKE CITY – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued the following statement Monday after President Trump announced significant reductions to both the Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears national monuments.

“President Trump did the people of Utah a great favor today by rolling back harmful land use restrictions in southern Utah,” Sen. Lee said. “The president has done his part and now it is time for Congress to act to protect the people of Utah from federal overreach in the future. That is why I will be introducing legislation later this week that would give Utah similar protections from Antiquities Act abuse that the states of Wyoming and Alaska currently enjoy.”

Sen. Lee’s bill will empower state and local officials and Tribal members to manage the new national monuments designated in southern Utah by President Trump. The bill will also require the approval of Congress and the Utah state legislature for all future national monuments in the state.
