Weber County Celebrates National County Government Month

Caring for those in need while building a better quality of life

Ogden, Utah – Sponsored by the National Association of Counties, Weber County will join other county governments across the United States in celebrating National County Government Month (NCGM) in April. During the week of April 7-11, Weber County elected officials will speak in fourth grade classes throughout the county educating students on the various roles and responsibilities of the county.

“Fourth graders are the perfect audience to begin teaching about our local government and its processes. Typically, their curriculum begins the study of Utah history which is where state and local government practices are introduced. ” commented Commissioner Zogmaister who has participated and supported this program over the years.

In addition to the school presentations, one individual and one organization are selected for outstanding achievement and contributions to enhancing quality of life in Weber County and promoting economic vitality in the local area. On Tuesday, April 8th 2014, at 10:00 AM during Commission Meeting, Weber County will be honoring 10-year old Armani McFarland for her amazing gift of service to the needy, and to R.A.M.P. for its ongoing commitment to improving new and existing facilities for recreation, arts, museums and parks.

Since 1991, the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties to promote county government service and programs and to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of counties.

A schedule of Weber County school presentations follows. Media is welcome to attend. Please contact Holin Wilbanks to schedule: hwilbanks@co.weber.ut.us or 801-399-8419.
