Open Letter from Mayor Call:
We are just a few weeks away from the first day of autumn. The leaves will be flying in no time and hopefully temperatures will be reasonable for a time. I’m sure many of you are like me and enjoy a colorful and cool Fall. Our children have returned to their various schools; and we welcome our new charter school, Capstone Classical Academy, which opened for this school year. They broke ground in February and pulled off a great feat in finishing construction and opening just six months later. They are located on the west side of Highway 89, across from Woodruff Auto.
Speaking of children and school, I would like to thank all the wonderful professionals that make our schools great. There are so many to thank that I dare not start naming even the positions as I am afraid I would forget someone. From the administration on down to anyone that works to better our children’s lives, I thank you. However, I really do need to call out one special group of people. These are the volunteers that help in the schools. The PTA moms and dads and the many other great people that read, tutor, and are in so many other spots helping with our children. They truly realize that these children are our future.
Please remember as you are hurrying to get to work or to the store or wherever you are going that you watch out for these students. Remember to obey the school zones and watch out for the crossing guards. Drive like their lives depend on you, because they do!
Lastly, a shout out to our Youth City Council. They prepared a display for the Weber County Fair Community Booths exhibit; and it was awesome! It won the People’s Choice Award—an award that the attendees of the fair vote for. It was such a fun display. I hope that many of you had a chance to view it. Again, well done YCC.
To all of you, thanks for caring, thanks for all you do, and thanks for being good neighbors. I am committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure that we remain the best place to not only grow up, but the best place to grow old.
Mayor Leonard Call

A Pleasant View resident actually IS a rocket scientist! Greg Buker is from Miami, Florida, and he says the most outstanding feature of Miami is that it is a melting pot of cultures. If you want to learn about or experience a different culture, it is very easy to find. “Also,” he adds, “the beaches in Miami are pretty amazing.”
Greg earned a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering at Florida State University, and a Master’s Degree, also in mechanical engineering, from the University of Utah. He said the Florida State University was like its own city. There were so many fun events for students that there was never a dull moment. “With so many people,” he said, “it was extremely easy to find others with similar interests and spend time enjoying activities I was passionate about.”
Now living in Pleasant View, Utah, and employed by Northrop Grumman in Promontory, Greg works on the Common Boost Segment (CBS) rocket motors that will be used on the company’s new OmegA rocket. As the process engineer over filament case winding, Greg handles the rocket motor case from when it begins as completely raw materials until it is pushed off the wind mandrel and passed on as a 12-ft diameter, 30-plus foot long cured case to the machining engineer.
Growing up, Greg was always a fan of things that went fast, including cars, motorcycles, jets, rockets, etc. “When finishing up my engineering degree, I applied to jobs across those various industries and I landed in the very satisfying world of rockets,” Greg said. “Now that I am in the industry, the advanced technologies that go into every rocket are very exciting to work with.”
Greg is an avid rider of all things two-wheeled (motocross bikes, street motorcycles, road bicycles, and mountain bicycles), and raced mountain and road bikes all throughout college. “When I moved out to Utah,” he said, “I picked up snowboarding and skiing – at the resort and in the backcountry – and just recently, I have started rock climbing.”
Greg works in an exciting industry, but it hasn’t always been easy. For someone who may be interested in working in a similar job and wonders what they should focus on, Greg says, “For me, the key is not so much what you focus on, but that you stay focused and diligent in all aspects of what you are working on. When things get tough (which they inevitably will, especially in engineering) keep the end goal in mind and use that to stay motivated and keep slogging through the work.” Greg shared that his dad always told him, “The hard work you put in now will pay much larger dividends later.” Greg says that so far, he has proven to be correct and “I couldn’t be happier with that advice.”

Weber High PTSA! Our mission is to support ALL students at Weber High. In the last several years, the PTSA has not held a fundraiser. We know that so many people in our community are asked to support fundraising efforts by Weber athletes and students participating in clubs. However, this year, we have been asked by Weber High administration to raise money to purchase large banners that will hang on the utility poles that line Weber High Drive and Shorty’s Lane. They want everyone who is driving through North Ogden and Pleasant View to know that they are entering Weber High territory. We are the Warriors and we are proud!
This is a “No Fuss Fundraiser.” They are not selling candy bars, coupon books, or hosting a 5K race. We are counting on all our “Friends of Weber High” to support our effort to promote the spirit of Weber High in our community. We need to raise $2,000 to purchase 26 banners to line the streets of North Ogden and Pleasant View. Everyone in our community will benefit as we beautify our streets and increase our school and community pride. Additional funds collected will support PTSA activities throughout the year. Donations can be made via PayPal to weberhighptsa@gmail.com, or by visiting https://weber.wds.net/index.php/parent-services/ptsa.
Thank you for your support. We are excited to line our streets with Warrior spirit! Email with questions to: weberhighptsa@gmail.com
