Fremont High School in Plain City is celebrating its 20th anniversary this school year, and the girls’ basketball team wants to help make it a memorial one. Coach Lisa Dalebout, who’s in her 4th year of coaching at Fremont, says, “They [the girls] have extremely high goals and work hard every day to obtain them. This team is very special. We have amazing athletes, but they are even better people.”
Since Fremont is in the Region 1 division, which is arguably the hardest in the state, Coach Dalebout says the girls will have to play tough and consistent every game. “We will need to stay positive and keep our mind on our short-term goals to achieve our highest goals. Our team cares for each other and wants to see each other succeed. We are very athletic, but our athletes’ work ethic sets them apart.”
Coach Dalebout also wants her team to learn how to overcome any obstacle, both on and off the court. She says, “I want them to be great people, students, and then athletes…in that order. Basketball is an extremely demanding sport and through it I hope they learn to be mentally tough, emotionally mature, and physically strong; and through it all remember to have fun and enjoy each other.”
