A combined orchestra Christmas concert at Weber High School in Pleasant View on 16 December, combined the talents of students from WHS, North Ogden Junior High and Orion Junior High under the direction of their conductor/teacher Maxine Barnett. The concert allowed each of the school’s orchestras to do individual performances and finish with a combined rendition of “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
Mrs. Barnett has been teaching orchestra for the past 16 years. Her current teaching assignment requires a little bit of travel every day between all 3 schools. She teaches 2 classes at each school every day. Prior to teaching orchestra in the past, she taught band for 12 years. In her younger years, she served in the United States Army band in Berlin, Germany, as an oboe player. During her tour of duty there she also played the clarinet and saxophone. When asked about retirement after teaching for so many years she said, “I’ve got a couple more years before that will happen.” It’s safe to say the kids will have this wonderful teacher for a while longer.
