State Board reelects leadership officers for 2016

The Utah State Board of Education voted Friday to reelect Chair David Crandall and Vice Chairs David Thomas and Jennifer Johnson for the 2016 calendar year. The election was conducted in an open meeting using a private ballot system.

Crandall, of Draper, has served as Board Chair since January 2014. He has served on the State Board since 2009. Crandall represents District 11 and works as a software engineer.

Thomas was elected First Vice Chair for the second year. The South Weber resident has served on the State Board of Education since 2009 and represents District 4. He previously served in the Utah Senate and works as the chief civil deputy county attorney for Summit County.

Johnson, of Murray, was elected to a second year serving as Second Vice Chair. Johnson began her service on the State Board in 2013 and represents District 8. She owns an investment management company.

State Board leadership elections are conducted by following established internal Policies and Procedures. The 15-member elected body chooses its own leadership annually.

Other Board members who ran for leadership positions this year included Laura Belnap, Linda Hansen, and Joel Wright.
