Party On with Wayne and Garth for A Special

Two-Night Screening Event

to Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Wayne's World

Birthday Bash Events on February 7th and 8th in Select Theaters

February 6th,

2017 - Los Angeles, California
- In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the iconic comedy classic Wayne's World, SpectiCast and Paramount Pictures are hosting excellent, two-night, theatrical events on February 7th and 8th, 2017.  Fans across the U.S. will have the chance to party on with Wayne and Garth when the film returns to more than 400 theaters. The special events will include an exclusive introduction by Peter Travers (Rolling Stone Magazine and ABC-TV) and a videotaped chat with the director and cast members after the film.  Wayne's World was originally released on February 14, 1992.

Based on the "Saturday Night Live" sketch of the same name, Wayne's World is a wacky, irreverent pop-culture comedy about the adventures of two amiably aimless metal-head friends, Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey).  From Wayne's basement, the pair broadcast a talk-show called "Wayne's World" on local public access television. Wayne's World, directed by Penelope Spheeris, grossed $183 million in its theatrical run, placing it as the tenth highest-grossing film of 1992 and the highest-grossing of the 11 films based on "Saturday Night Live" skits. The movie features Rob Lowe, Tia Carrere, Lara Flynn Boyle, Brian Doyle-Murray, Robert Patrick, Chris Farley, Ed O'Neill, Ione Skye, Meat Loaf, and Alice Cooper.

Tickets for the February 7th and 8th events may be purchased at www.waynesworld25.com.

"Wayne's World transcends generations to pay tribute to an indelible place in American pop culture," says SpectiCast CEO Mark Rupp. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone Magazine adds, "Director Penelope Spheeris brings out the best in Mike Myers and Dana Carvey while converting a classic SNL sketch into an enduring, full bodied film for the ages."

Paramount Home Media Distribution also will celebrate the anniversary with a Wayne's World Double Feature on DVD and Digital HD, arriving February 14, 2017.  Plus, Wayne's World will be available on iTunes with new-to-digital extras, including a Director's Commentary and Making-Of featurette.

Kurt and his team serve Promise Communities with mobile health clinics, mobile optometry (eye) clinics, glasses delivered to schools, mental health supports, and even dental supports. In addition, UPFH regularly helps with site visits and works with partners to raise funds to support various programs.

Dr. F. Ann Millner, Utah State Senate

When elected, Dr. Millner became one of the Senate’s leading education Changemaker, leading out on key education policy initiatives on behalf of the Senate. She has sponsored groundbreaking legislation in close coordination with the Promise Partnership Regional Council and UWSL, including the High-Quality School Readiness Program Expansion (SB101) and Partnerships for Student Success (SB67) during the 2016 session. The High-Quality School Readiness Program Expansion added $11 million a year for three years to high-quality preschool for at-risk children, increasing the investment Utah makes in early childhood education. Additionally, Kearns High graduation rates have jumped nearly 20 percent from 66 percent in 2012 to 84 percent in 2016.

Silicon Slopes (Start Up Santa)

Silicon Slopes is a nonprofit that exists to empower Utah entrepreneurs to learn, connect, and serve. In 2015, Executive Director, Clint Betts approached United Way of Utah County to find out how the tech and startup community could best give back to the community over the holiday season. What Clint discovered was that two out of every three Utah children living in low-income families and attending third grade don’t read at a proficient level, 347,000 Utah children live at or near the poverty level, and 234,00 of those children are at-risk of intergenerational poverty. Because of this, Silicon Slopes decided to give the gift of literacy. It launched Startup Santa and raised 13,644 books from over 40 companies its first year.

This year, Silicon Slopes expanded its partnership with United Ways across the state promising to double the results, and engaged more than 90 companies and community organizations Startup Santa 2016 raised 88,000 books cash and book donations for children living in low-income families. Beyond books, 178 volunteers gave 352 hours of service to sort and distribute the books as well as read to children throughout Salt Lake County.

New Poll: Utahns Split on Income Tax Initiative

(Utah) – A new Utah survey of likely 2018 general election voters regarding an effort to increase the state income tax was released today. The survey showed a split electorate on the potential ballot initiative being pushed by 'Our Schools Now.' The survey also asked several additional questions informing participants of the financial ramifications of the tax increase, as well as a question about possible alternatives to raising the state income tax. The Trafalgar Group (TFG), recognized for having the best polling in the 2016 battleground states and electoral college projection, conducted the poll from January 31st through February 3rd. The survey was commissioned by the Libertas Institute and the Utah chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP).

The first question, phrased in the same manner as previously commissioned polls, showed that 50% of likely voters support the initiative, with 45% against.

On questions 2 and 3, when participants were informed of the effective percentage increase of about 20%, leading the average Utah family to pay $900 more a year, support for the initiative wanes significantly. Specifically, over 50% of those who initially indicated support for the initiative said they were less likely to support based on the 20% increase. Nearly 60% of those who initially indicated support for the initiative, said they were less likely to support based on the additional $900 in state income tax per year.

Participants were virtually even on question 4, with support not changing when informed that Utah is last in per student spending. Over 45% of participants opposed all alternative proposals for tax increases conveyed in question 5, with increasing the gas tax being the most chosen, at 16%.

TFG surveyed over 1,050 likely 2018 general election voters using a random sample of registered voters in Utah. The margin of error is +/- 2.98.

Commenting on the survey, TFG Senior Strategist Robert Cahaly said, "Like most issues, public opinion reveals itself based on the presentation of the question. When presented with a single digit fraction the income tax seems insignificant, but when the true cost of the tax increase is revealed there is a major opinion shift."

Cahaly also stated, "The question on cost per student affirms that in the abstract the public is willing to consider additional education support. This poll demonstrates that most Utahns share the current American consensus opinion on spending and taxes: 'We want everything considered important to be well funded and we don't want to pay more in taxes to make it happen.'"

Cahaly concluded, "Republican legislators should pay particular attention to the warning these results provide. Republican voter's opposition to raising income taxes is significant. Supporting this proposal could create difficult primaries and/or miserable caucuses/conventions."

The Trafalgar Group is widely recognized as the best polling firm of the 2016 election cycle, correctly forecasting the results in key battleground and other states (PA, FL, NC, MI, OH, CO, GA) and exactly predicting the Trump electoral college margin of victory (306-232). The results and information of their polls have been featured in thousands of US and global news stories, television networks, and high-profile polling websites like Real Clear Politics.

Utah Taxpayers Oppose State Raising Income Tax, Poll Shows

Opinion swayed against ballot initiative once discovered that the average Utah family could pay about 20 percent more per year

SALT LAKE CITY – A new poll released today shows that Utahns oppose the State Legislature’s consideration of increasing the income tax rate. Americans for Prosperity-Utah opposes any such increase as the effects on job creation and personal financial stability would be sacrificed. The “Utah Tax Poll” was commissed by the Libertas Institue and AFP-UT.

See the Utah Tax Poll here

“The legislature should not sacrifice the growth our state has seen since Governor John Huntsman reduced the rate from seven percent to five percent just a few years ago,” said state director, Evelyn Everton. “When confronted with the realities of what raising the income tax would do – namely, costing the average Utah family about $900 dollars more a year – Utahns opposition of the proposed ballot initiative raises to nearly 70 percent. As Utahns learn about the negative impact this proposal would have on their families, support drops dramatically. As such, the Utah legislature should forgo any efforts to increase the state’s income tax rate.”

AFP-UT will educate Utahns about this and other policies being discussed in Salt Lake City. The organization will mobilize activists from across the state to push the legislature against raising taxes. AFP-UT will also score votes in favor of this proposal negatively in their 2017 legislative scorecard.

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) exists to recruit, educate, and mobilize citizens in support of the policies and goals of a free society at the local, state, and federal level, helping every American live their dream – especially the least fortunate. AFP has more than 3.2 million activists across the nation, a local infrastructure that includes 35 state chapters, and has received financial support from more than 100,000 Americans in all 50 states. UTAH'S TOP YOUTH VOLUNTEERS OF 2017 SELECTED BY NATIONAL PROGRAM

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honors Orem and Bountiful students with $1,000, medallions and trip to nation’s capital

Finalists also named in Holladay, Fruit Heights, North Salt Lake City and Elwood

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Rebekah Reno, 16, of Orem and Kara Hughes, 13, of Bountiful today were named Utah's top two youth volunteers of 2017 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. As State Honorees, Rebekah and Kara each will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense-paid trip in early May to Washington, D.C., where they will join the top two honorees from each of the other states and the District of Columbia for four days of national recognition events. During the trip, 10 students will be named America’s top youth volunteers of 2017.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, now in its 22nd year, is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

These are Utah's top youth volunteers of 2017:

High School State Honoree: Rebekah Reno

Nominated by Freedom Preparatory Academy in Provo

Rebekah, a senior at Freedom Prepatory Academy, mentored five younger girls last summer as a counselor at the Utah Valley University’s “LeadHERship” Conference. As an active member of her school’s student council, Rebekah was delighted when organizers asked her to participate in the conference, which was designed to empower young girls as they progress in their education. “This was the first year it was offered by UVU; this meant that being part of the first group of counselors, we set a precedent for the coming years of the program,” Rebekah said.

She and her fellow counselors attended training sessions the weekend before the weeklong conference. Then she and a partner were placed in charge of five girls, ranging in age from 11 to 13. As a counselor, Rebekah helped the girls through each day’s activities and encouraged them to develop their strengths, abilities and talents. At the end of each day, the counselors reviewed with the girls what they had learned, including confidence-building, teamwork, etiquette, and public speaking. On the last day of the conference parents were invited to hear about the progress their daughters had made. “I know that my girls left empowered and excited as they looked forward to entering junior high,” she said.

Middle Level State Honoree: Kara Hughes

Nominated by Bountiful Junior High School in Bountiful

Kara, an eighth-grader at Bountiful Junior High School, arranged for a group of musicians and actors with special needs to perform monthly at a local convalescent hospital. For the past two years, Kara has volunteered at a nearby theater with a group that teaches music and acting skills to people with disabilities and then produces two plays a year to showcase their talents. Kara had noticed how much the budding actors loved performing and thought it was a shame they were limited to only two performances a year. Then she had an idea. “There is a convalescent hospital in our community and I knew the patients liked visitors, so I thought this would be the perfect place for them to share their talents and in doing so, serve the patients at the hospital,” Kara said.

She met with the director of the theater group to get her permission and then brought her idea to the hospital’s recreation specialist. Once she had the go-ahead to begin her “Friend to Friend Outreach,” Kara contacted the performers, sent out emails to parents about her plan, scheduled weekly rehearsals, and recruited other coaches to help. Kara said she will never forget a mute woman with Down syndrome who actually started singing out loud during a performance. “To see the smile on her face and the tears on her mom’s face was so cool,” Kara said. She is currently investigating other performing opportunities for her group.

Distinguished Finalists

The program judges also recognized four other Utah students as Distinguished Finalists for their impressive community service activities. Each will receive an engraved bronze medallion.

These are Utah's Distinguished Finalists for 2017:

Alyssa Baer, 18, of Holladay, Utah, a senior at Olympus High School, is an active volunteer and service leader with the Be Strong Service Club, where she worked with other club leaders to establish weekly service visits to a school serving adults and children with special needs. As a service leader with the club, Alyssa attends monthly leadership meetings to help create community connections that will provide members with ongoing service opportunities.

Jessica Cox, 18, of Fruit Heights, Utah, a senior at Davis High School, has served with the Fruit Heights Youth City Council since ninth grade, lending a hand with five or six service activities each year including city cleanup and an annual Easter egg hunt. Jessica, who was elected mayor for her senior year, has also served as the youth group’s recorder and secretary, and has participated in leadership conferences and retreats to learn how to better serve the city.

Emma Ebert, 17, of North Salt Lake, Utah, a senior at Woods Cross High School, serves as youth mayor of the North Salt Lake City Youth City Council, planning and participating in a variety of activities serving her community. Emma, who joined the group in 2014, has attended weekly meetings in addition to outside activities including food drives and emergency preparedness fairs, and has worked to help other council members use their talents in service to the community.

Jensen Hughes, 17, of Elwood, Utah, a senior at Bear River High School, brightens the lives of the residents of a local care center by singing to them for an hour or two every Sunday, along with a group of other volunteers. Jensen, the group’s longest-serving volunteer, has recruited members to replace those who have moved or gone off to college over the years, to help bring music and conversation to the care center’s residents and their families.

“Prudential is honored to recognize these young volunteers for their exemplary service,” said Prudential Chairman and CEO John Strangfeld. “We hope that their stories inspire others to consider how they, too, can volunteer their time and talents to improve their communities.”

“These service-minded young people have brought meaningful change to communities at home and abroad, and it’s a privilege to celebrate their work,” said JoAnn Bartoletti, executive director of NASSP. “Congratulations to an exceptional group of middle level and high school students.”

About The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represents the United States’ largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. All public and private middle level and high schools in the country, as well as all Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross chapters, YMCAs and HandsOn Network affiliates, were eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award. These Local Honorees were then reviewed by an independent judging panel, which selected State Honorees and Distinguished Finalists based on criteria including personal initiative, effort, impact and personal growth.

While in Washington, D.C., the 102 State Honorees – one middle level and one high school student from each state and the District of Columbia – will tour the capital’s landmarks, meet top youth volunteers from other parts of the world, attend a gala awards ceremony at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, and visit their congressional representatives on Capitol Hill. On May 8, 10 of the State Honorees – five middle level and five high school students – will be named America’s top youth volunteers of 2017. These National Honorees will receive additional $5,000 awards, gold medallions, crystal trophies and $5,000 grants from The Prudential Foundation for nonprofit charitable organizations of their choice.

Since the program began in 1995, more than 115,000 young volunteers have been honored at the local, state and national level. The program also is conducted by Prudential subsidiaries in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Ireland, India, China and Brazil. In addition to granting its own awards, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program also distributes President’s Volunteer Service Awards to qualifying Local Honorees.
