[START OF ANNOUNCEMENT]

Utah Gun Exchange Co-Sponsoring Second Amendment Rally at Capitol

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

WHERE: Utah State Capitol – South Steps

Utah Gun Exchange, in response to recent proposals from legislators, including red flag laws, universal background checks and the elimination of private transfers, which would substantially infringe upon our constitutional rights, seeks to unite people in support of our freedoms and show our legislators that we are resolute in the support of our Constitution. As such, we are co-sponsoring Utah’s first Pro 2A Freedom Rally of 2020 with Open Carry Utah, Oath Keepers, Utah Shooters and the Utah Firearms Association in an effort to preserve our freedoms for all people now and for future generations to come.

Please join us in celebrating our constitutional freedoms that allow us to prevent atrocities and remain free to pursue our lives, liberty and happiness.

The list of speakers scheduled to appear is diverse and impressive. The key note address will be delivered by Clark Aposhian, Chairman of the Utah Shooting Sports Council.

UT Gun Rights Warning, Note, and Disclaimer:

WARNING: Many have asked questions regarding the status of Utah's open carry statutes with regard to rifles and shotguns. UT Gun Rights does NOT provide legal advice or counsel, however, the following article should be seriously considered. Regardless of opinions to the contrary, Utah legislators involved in the drafting and enactment of HB 276 in 2014 repeatedly and publicly asserted that, under their bill, OPEN CARRY WEAPONS MUST BE HOLSTERED OR ENCASED.  See "2014's Trojan Horse: Lessons for Utah Gun Owners" at

Note: There are, in fact, MANY gun control bills moving forward in the Utah legislature. Learn more at the 2020 Bill Tracking Page: The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly at

New Title Sponsor and Community Partner for the Ogden Marathon

Ogden, UT – February 6, 2020 - The GOAL Foundation, producers of the Ogden Marathon, is proud to announce a new title sponsor. America First Credit Union (AFCU) has signed a multiyear contract to be the presenting sponsor of the Ogden Marathon.

“2020 is going to be such a special anniversary year for the Ogden Marathon and we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with America First Credit Union,” said Eric Bauman, Executive Director of the GOAL Foundation. “AFCU is doing wonderful things in our community. We want to invite everyone to come out and celebrate 20 years of athletes, volunteers and memories with us, you won’t want to miss it.”

The Ogden Marathon was first established in 2001 and quickly became a bucket-list race due to the panoramic views of the Wasatch Mountain range and the incredibly scenic run through Ogden Canyon. This race accommodates the professional athlete, vacation racers as well as the family that runs together. Race weekend includes a Full and Half Marathon, The Utah Eye Centers 5K, and the Granite Construction Kids K. Racers from all over the world are anticipated to participate in the 20th anniversary celebration and race on Saturday, May 16.

“Ogden is a beautiful place to live and work which is why we love having our Operations Center here in Weber County,” said AFCU President and CEO John B. Lund. “While we operate throughout Utah, Southern Nevada, Arizona and Idaho, we always want to make sure we’re supporting our community right here at home. We’re proud to be supporting the Ogden Marathon to help our members cross the finish line both with their financial goals and their fitness goals.”

“The Ogden Marathon’s impact and reach is far broader than just a race,” said Bauman. “It truly makes a difference and has a positive impact in the lives of our athletes, our volunteers, our spectators, and our community. It’s not only a motivator and opportunity to train and get fit, but it is an opportunity to build a community, build families and spend time with friends. Partnering with America First Credit Union is going to enable us to continue to expand our giveback to the community and to help more families ‘Get Out and LIVE!’”

The 20th celebration will kick off with the NordicTrack Fun & Fitness Expo that hosts more than 70 vendors complete with big prize giveaways, including two treadmills, KT Taping and the latest and greatest in running gear for race day. On race day, runners can look forward to upgraded race shirts, medals, a free beer/beverage of their choice at the finish line as well as many more surprises to be announced. The GOAL Foundation has also integrated youth and family activities into race-day participation. During Marathon Weekend, families can choose from the Kids K, 5K, Half or Full Marathon or join a Relay Team. All participants, no matter the distance, get to cross the same world-class finish line and are fully supported by the Greatest Volunteers on Earth.

With all of the excitement building around the 20th anniversary celebration, the events are expected to fill quickly. Don’t wait, head to www.ogdenmarathon.com to claim your spot.

Sen. Lee Votes to Acquit President Trump

WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) spoke on the Senate floor Wednesday ahead of his vote to acquit President Trump on both articles of impeachment. From his speech:

“At the end of the day, this government does in fact stand accountable to the people. This government is of, by, and, for the people. We cannot remove the 45th President of the United States for doing something that the law and the Constitution allows him to do, without doing undue violence to that system of government to which every single one of us has sworn an oath. We’ve sworn to protect and defend that system of government. And that means standing up for the American people, and those who they have elected to do a job recognized by the Constitution. I will be voting to defend the president’s actions. I will be voting against undoing the vote taken by the American people some three and a half years ago. I will be voting for the principle of freedom. For the very principles that our constitution was designed to protect. I urge all of my colleagues to reject these deeply, factually and legally, flawed articles of impeachment… to vote not guilty.”

A video of the full speech and an online version of this release can be found here.

 ====================

Immediately after the historic impeachment vote in the United States Senate, the United Utah Party issued the following statement:

Today, the state of Utah and, indeed, the nation as a whole witnessed a rare act of unparalleled political courage. Senator Mitt Romney’s decision to vote to convict the president on the charge of abuse of power was a powerful reminder that moral courage is sorely lacking in today's political environment, but that there are individuals who still hold to a sense of the importance of their duty to the country.

The United Utah Party applauds Senator Romney and, should Republicans succeed in ostracizing him for his willingness to put his country before narrow partisan interests, we would like him know that he would have a new home in the UUP.

Governor Gary Herbert Celebrates Be Awesome Online Statewide Initiative

Salt Lake City, Utah (February 10)—My Discovery Destination! is working with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to address digital literacy. Resources from both national and state organizations will be provided in an online format for families to access at their convenience. Designed to empower parents with resources and tools to help their children be safe and responsible online, these daily challenges will be issued in bite-size, mini-lessons that can be easily implemented into even the busiest schedule. In conjunction with the online resources, family workshops will be held in communities across the state in April.

“By inviting communities statewide to join together to address this important topic our goal is to focus all eyes on educating kids and families, increase the awareness and impact of the efforts of so many organizations working tirelessly to serve Utah families, and focus our entire state on learning to Be Awesome Online,” said Sharilee Griffiths, Executive Director of My Discovery Destination!  This statewide initiative officially kicks off on Tuesday, February 11, in conjunction with Safer Internet Day. There will be a celebration with Governor Gary Herbert in support of the initiative at 10:00 a.m. on February 18  at the Utah State Capitol.

“Parenting in the digital age is complex. This Be Awesome Online initiative will give parents tools to get people thinking and talking about internet safety in their homes, and then learning and acting on a schedule that works for their family. The family workshops will provide opportunities for parents and kids to openly explore both the benefits and concerns about raising children in a world that is so connected via the internet.” Griffiths said. “My Discovery Destination! is pleased to equip Utah families with resources to help every member Be Awesome Online.”

At these community workshops, families will: ·       Learn about online safety tools and how to better navigate the internet ·       Increase their understanding of digital well-being ·       Engage with other parents in meaningful conversations about raising children in an online world

Tori Jones, My Discovery Destination! Community Coordinator in Box Elder, added “My Discovery Destination! is thrilled to be taking this important information statewide in a format that will be available to all Utah families at a time and in a place that is flexible and can work into their schedule.”

The Be Awesome Online statewide initiative and resources is designed to deepen the understanding and knowledge of parents, families and teachers about digital safety tools and resources and to mobilize schools and communities to engage families around best practices and shared learning; and generate collective impact on Utah communities.
