May was a busy month for North Ogden Kiwanis who presented awards to students in eleven area schools. Nine elementary schools, including Valley, were visited by Kiwanis Club members to present Hope of America awards to graduating sixth graders. The award is based in scholastics and citizenship. A total of 62 students, two in each sixth grade, received a framed certificate and a cash award of $25. Teachers made the selection of those to receive the award. Seen in the photo are students from Lomond View Elementary in Pleasant View.

Kiwanis members also gave Achievement Awards to a graduating senior at Fremont and Weber High Schools at the schools’ award assemblies. At Weber High, Ryan Mason was recognized for his achievements in school work as well as citizenship. And at Fremont, Braxton Hale received the same award; both; young men attended a regular Kiwanis Club meeting and received their checks for $500 to help with education plans. In the photo, Braxton receives a check from Dave Lundstrom, Kiwanis Club President.

The North Ogden Kiwanis Club holds several fundraising events each year to benefit local youth, including a Cherry Days Breakfast and a golf tournament at The Barn in July. Other help given to youth includes an annual Easter Egg Hunt at North Ogden Park, assistance for the Youth City Council, and individual financial assistance for young men and women who are pursuing various projects that enhance their education and all around development. The local Club will celebrate its 70th year in 2016 and this year celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of Kiwanis International.

The Club enjoys an excellent reputation in the community and welcomes men and women of all ages to investigate by attending a meeting held twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month at the North View Senior Center. For information call John Reynolds at (801) 782-8077.
