The Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd) today announced that U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos will address the 2017 National Summit on Education Reform on Thursday, November 30, in Nashville, Tennessee. ExcelinEd’s flagship event, now in its 10th year, convenes leaders from across the nation and around the world to share strategies to improve the quality of education for each and every child.
Betsy DeVos serves as the 11th U.S. Secretary of Education. Secretary DeVos has been involved in education policy for nearly three decades and has long-been an advocate for children and a voice for parents. As secretary, DeVos continues to advocate for returning control of education to states and localities, giving parents greater power to choose the educational settings that are best for their children, and ensuring that higher education puts students on the path to successful careers. DeVos is a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is married to Dick DeVos, and together they have four children and six grandchildren.
Governor Jeb Bush will open the National Summit’s content-rich agenda with a keynote address on Thursday, November 30. The National Summit will focus on reform topics of educational opportunity, innovation and quality in general sessions with nationally renowned speakers, targeted strategy sessions and hands-on workshops featuring policy experts, legislators and educators sharing proven and next generation policy solutions for improving learning for all students.
Each year, the National Summit on Education Reform serves as a strategic convening for leaders who want a timely, comprehensive overview of all elements of transformative education policy. The unique gathering equips them with the knowledge, know-how and a network of experts to champion students in every classroom across America. Last year’s National Summit convened 1,045 education leaders from 47 states, with 94 percent of attendees praising the event as “outstanding” or “above average.”

Secretary Perdue Launches Veteran Resources at USDA
(Washington, D.C., November 9, 2017) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today announced the launch of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) resources to provide comprehensive and timely support to veterans interested in opportunities in agriculture, agribusiness, and in rural America. The resources include a new website and a USDA-wide AgLearn curriculum to allow all employees to understand the unique opportunities offered to our nation’s veterans.
“From the beginning of this Administration, USDA has focused on how to best serve our veterans,” said Secretary Perdue. “These men and women of the United States military have kept America free and deserve the utmost respect. Across the country, these veterans are beginning to fill roles that preserve rural communities while providing for their livelihood. Through these resources, USDA is committed to helping veterans in agricultural areas so we can strengthen the American economy and provide assistance for those who have served. Veterans and agriculture are just a great fit.”
