Utah's Giving Potential
Late last year, Claritas and Cicero Group released The Giving State - a comprehensive report on Utah's social sector. What did they find? Utah is full of generous donors, but the funds aren't always effective.
"We have an enormous opportunity to shift our mindset to define success in terms of impact, or the change we can effect in our communities."
We encourage you to read the full report and engage with us to make Utah's philanthropic community stronger.
CFU Delivers $40,000 to Local Nonprofits
We received over 25 applications for both the Community Development Fund and Utah Natural Heritage Fund grant cycles - a record for each fund! Each cycle was incredibly competitive, and we were lucky enough to visit three of the winners in January to see their work. Congratulations to the grantees!

Bishop Votes to Strengthen Military
WASHINGTON – The US House of Representatives voted to pass the Bipartisan Budget Act. The two-year budget agreement includes the resources for essential military improvements. As a senior member of the House Committee on Armed Services, Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-01) offered the following statement:
“The days of leaving our military shorthanded and vulnerable are over. This legislation will begin the much needed repairs, replacements, and upgrades to military infrastructure. This bolsters field operations and recruitment efforts, while at the same time supporting the civilian workforce. This vote will position Utah’s Hill Air Force Base to be all the more suited to continue its crucial role in the defense of our nation.
“In testimony delivered to Congress, Secretary Mattis stated that, ‘insufficient funding [has] created an overstretched and under-resourced military.’ Mattis also said, ‘we need budget predictability.’ I couldn’t agree more. It is irresponsible and dangerous to fund our military with short-term funding bills. Our troops, and the civilian personnel that support them, deserve better. This bill finally puts us on a positive path forward.”
Mac Thornberry, Chairman of the House Committee on Armed Services, offered this statement:
“Chairman Bishop understands Congress’ first duty is to ‘provide for the common defense.’ With his vote today, the civilian workers and airmen at Utah’s Hill Air Force Base know Rob Bishop continues to fight for them. He knows that our nation’s military readiness suffers when not given the tools to complete the mission. With his support, this bill begins the important task of rebuilding our military.”

Touring This Spring with Protest The Hero
February 9, 2018 - Rock quintet Good Tiger is thrilled to share their highly anticipated sophomore album, We Will All Be Gone, out today via BLACKLIGHT MEDIA/Metal Blade Records. The album can be streamed in full via Spotify, and is available for purchase at metalblade.com/goodtiger. Additionally, fans can hear an exclusive Track By Track on idobi Radio today at 7pm ET.
On the new album, guitarist Dez Nagle shares: "Going into our second record, we wanted to focus more on songwriting rather than specifically on any kind of wow factor, instrumentally or production-wise. We wanted the songs to speak, and everything we did was serving that purpose."
Good Tiger will be touring this spring as direct support for Protest The Hero. The tour kicks off on April 19th, and includes stops in New York City, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and more. For a full list of dates, please see below or visit: goodtiger.co.
Blending their influences in a manner that defies lazy classification sets Good Tiger apart from their contemporaries, imbuing everything they do with a distinctive sound and feel, and with We Will All Be Gone, Good Tiger have dramatically built upon their stunning debut, 2015's A Head Full Of Moonlight.
Comprised of guitarists Derya "Dez" Nagle and Joaquin Ardiles, bassist Morgan Sinclair, drummer Alex Rudinger, and vocalist Elliot Coleman, Good Tiger has raised the stakes across the board - every track on We Will All Be Gone has a definitive character of its own, and none stay in a single gear, all of them dynamic and textured as they evoke various tones and moods. Tracking at Middle Farm Studios in southwest England, the band recruited producer Forrester Savell (Karnivool/Dead Letter Circus), and engineer/mixer Adam "Nolly" Getgood (Periphery/Animals As Leaders). "We worked with Nolly on the last album, we had a great working relationship, and wanted to explore that further in a more developed situation," Dez explains. "Forrester has made some of our favorite albums, and is someone we could trust steering the ship. Having self-produced for so long it can be at times quite difficult to let go, so it was important we found people we could fully entrust to help create the album we wanted to make."
