Seven puppies, mother dog abandoned, reward offered
Humane Society of Utah offers reward for arrest in dog abandonment case
A call was received by Sandy Animal Services Sunday, March 1, at 2:45 p.m. describing an abandoned Pit Bull Terrier type dog and her seven puppies found in the Coppergate Apartments parking lot located at 8870 South State Street in Sandy, Utah. The Humane Society of Utah is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for abandoning the dogs. The HSU hopes the reward assists the Sandy Police Department in obtaining information required to identify and charge whoever is responsible for this heartless act.
Director of Sandy Animal Services Sharon Dennison said the responding officer found a plastic bin containing the puppies in the parking lot along with the mother dog nearby.
“We’re grateful to the person who reported the incident and to Sandy Animal Services for rescuing the mother and her puppies,” said Gene Baierschmidt, HSU executive director. “Someone did an unthinkable act by leaving the puppies but better people stepped in to help the situation.”
The dogs were transferred to the Humane Society of Utah Monday, March 2. An HSU Foster Department employee will foster the mother, named Carmen, and her puppies until they are able to be adopted.
Anyone with information regarding who may have abandoned these dogs is urged to contact Sandy Animal Services at 801-352-4450 or John Fox, HSU animal cruelty investigator, at 801-261-2919 ext. 210. Tips can remain anonymous.
