Fly Fishing Film Tour kicks of Adopt-A-River program for Ogden City’s River Restoration Program
OGDEN –The annual Fly Fishing Film Tour premiering in Ogden on March 7 at Peery’s Egyptian Theater is more than a fish tale for outdoor enthusiasts, anglers and recreationalists. The event will promote the restoration of the Ogden River by launching Ogden City’s Adopt-A-River Program.
“Patterned after Adopt-A-Highway, Ogden City’s Adopt-A-River will educate and encourage the citizens of our community to take ownership and pride in a specific stretch of river by adopting, maintaining and beautifying the waterway’s banks,” said Ogden City’s Public Services Deputy Director Justin Anderson. “The monies raised from the Fly Fishing Film Tour will be used to support the adoption program by furnishing groups with the materials necessary to help maintain their stretch of river, such as planting materials and mulch, and providing garbage bags to dispose of weeds and other debris. “
The Adopt-A-River Program is also supported financially by a grant from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Blue Ribbon Fisheries Advisory Council, which shows not only the DWR's support of the restoration of our rivers, but also of the continued partnership and support of community-based stewardship of our rivers.
The Adopt-A-River Program will hold two major clean-ups a year in conjunction with the City’s Make-a- Difference Day in May and Patriot’s Day in September. Groups who participate in the program will also be responsible for ongoing maintenance of their stretch of river throughout the year. Wal-Mart, the Ogden Sierra Club, Ogden Preparatory Academy, Goal Foundation, Utah White Water Club, and Roosters Brewing Company will receive a special recognition the evening of the film festival for their commitment to the program.
“This is great opportunity to educate the community in addition to viewing the beautiful art of fly fishing on the big screen,” Anderson said. “This film event is not just for fishing fans, but for anyone who enjoys nature, a great story and wants to be part of contributing to the sustainability of our City.”
The event will also hold a drawing to win a Winston fly rod and Ross reel, valued at over $1000. Get tickets early at Peery’s Egyptian Theater Box Office or at www.the F3T.com. Discount tickets are available at Angler’s Den and Roosters Brewing Co. If your group would like to participate in the Adopt-A-River Program, contact Ogden City’s Program Coordinator Stacey Olsen at 629-8214 or StaceyOlsen@ogdencity.com for details.
