2017 Theme WHY NOT HOOPER? Thirty five years ago, as the news spread that President Ronald Regan was coming to visit Utah, excitement grew as they explored where a GOP picnic featuring President Regan could be held. Hooper rose to the top of the list and was chosen to host the event. Some people and some other communities frequently asked the question “Why Hooper?” Annoyed by the questioning and possibly the inference that Hooper is not important enough, big enough or good enough, shirts were made and proudly worn by hundreds of Hooperites that boldly declared, WHY NOT HOOPER, UTAH. As we now commemorate the 35th anniversary of that historic event, we chose that declaration to be the theme for our 2017 Tomato Days.
