NEA: Parents, educators ‘overwhelmingly reject’ idea of arming school staff
Bringing guns into schools ‘does nothing to protect’ our students, educators from gun violence

WASHINGTON — In a listening session at the White House today, Donald Trump proposed to arm teachers and school staff in an attempt to prevent mass shootings.

The following can be attributed to NEA President Lily Eskelsen García:

“Bringing more guns into our schools does nothing to protect our students and educators from gun violence. Our students need more books, art and music programs, nurses and school counselors; they do not need more guns in their classrooms. Parents and educators overwhelmingly reject the idea of arming school staff. Educators need to be focused on teaching our students. We need solutions that will keep guns out of the hands of those who want to use them to massacre innocent children and educators. Arming teachers does nothing to prevent that.

“We owe it to the students and school personnel, who’ve lost their lives at schools and on campuses across the country, to work together so that we can thoughtfully and carefully develop common sense solutions that really will save lives.”

The National Education Association represents 3 million educators who work in America’s public schools and on college campuses.

Hemp, Inc. Applauds Alaska House Vote to Legalize Industrial Hemp

Spring Hope, North Carolina, Feb. 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP), a global leader in the industrial hemp industry with the largest hemp mill in the western hemisphere, announced today that the Company applauds the Alaska House of Representatives for unanimously passing Senate Bill 6 Monday, legalizing industrial hemp and establishing a pilot program for its growth and production. The bill was passed with a vote of 36-0.

SB-6 is “an Act relating to the regulation and production of industrial hemp; relating to industrial hemp pilot programs; providing that industrial hemp is not included in the definition of 'marijuana'; providing that cannabidiol oil is not included in the definition of 'hashish oil'; clarifying that adding industrial hemp to food does not create an adulterated food product; and providing for an effective date,” according to Alaska State Legislation’s website.

Hemp, Inc. and wholly-owned subsidiary Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC, have been on the frontlines of advocating for and assisting with legislation that supports the hemp industry nationwide, including in Alaska. Industrial Hemp Manufacturing Regional Sales Manager Jack Bennett recently spoke with CBS-affiliated KTVA regarding the industry’s support for SB.

“Our team has been instrumental in advocating for legislation that will allow hemp farming, manufacturing, and production to flourish nationwide,” said David Schmitt, COO, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC. “We dedicate countless hours to working with lawmakers and policy influencers to educate them about the benefits of hemp for the U.S. economy as well as provide valuable input on the drafting of legislation to ensure the long-term success of these programs.”
Next, SB-6 will go to the Senate for a vote.
