At the last few City Council meetings in Pleasant View, Councilmembers and Mayor Toby Mileski have been discussing their plans for a new well located near Alder Creek to help supply more water to the City. Pleasant View has spent $110,000 towards design and engineering of the well. With this is mind, they [the Councilmembers] have expected to hear some opposition, but so far there hasn’t been any. Bona Vista hasn’t made a comment yet, but Tage Flint, General Manager/CEO of Weber Basin Water, did reply to our questions. He said that as long as the new well does not interfere with the existing wells in the area, there shouldn’t be a problem with Pleasant View wanting to add another one. He also said Weber Basin Water doesn’t have a preference at this time, but if Pleasant View needs any help from them, they are willing to help out.
At the City Council meeting on February 11th, City Administrator Melinda Greenwood said she also hasn’t heard any opposition yet for constructing the well. She also said that right now the Council is “working on getting the bonding in place and we are still waiting for a study from a hydro engineer to be completed.” The Council also approved of a Water Subcommittee to report back to the Council about any updates regarding the well along with the other water issues going on. Members will include Fred Hellstrom, Melinda Greenwood, Valerie Claussen, Matt Hartvigsen, Council member Humphreys, Council member Burns, and Danielle Jeppson from the planning commission, according to the minutes from the January 28th Council meeting. Also in the minutes was the total estimation for the entire project. It would cost around $1,977,000 with the city contributing $350,000 having a 3.75% interest rate over 20 years for the loan. Needless to say, the new well is still in the early stages of development with the hopes of smooth sailing ahead.
